Did J.B. Danquah go to see the then US Ambassador to Ghana, after Nkrumah had pardoned him and other detainees on June 2, 1962, to ask “why the funds his family had been receiving during his imprisonment had been cut after his release”?

If you claim you read the book, then you ought to know that this very line is also in the book: “why the funds his family had been receiving during his imprisonment had been cut after his release”?

Let's talk about that, Baby!

Nana Addo Dankwah leads president Mills, NDC presidential candidate by double digits, according to a university of Ghana poll out today. Nana Addo gets 65%, 35 points ahead of Atta Mess, who is at 30%. CPP is third with 2%, PNC 1% and 2% of correspondents will not vote...

Genuine dreams invade our sleep uninvited. As soon as we wake-up, the make-believe of the dreamland is over. Invented dreams work to the contrary. These are self-inflicted injuries to objectivity, and those who depend on this swim with the ...fins of lead. This is not the first time that this affliction is visiting the NPP. We all know about the 2008 Presidential campaign and Akufo-Addo's "One-Touch!" slogan, and what happened at the end of the day!

What makes this even more hollow and ridiculous was the fact that Akufo-Addo paid a famous pollster thousands of dollars, only to be told the truth that he was going to lose the elections because Atta-Mills was more popular than him! Thus it was that whilst Akufo-Addo was all over the place shouting "One touch! One touch!", he knew secretly that he was going to lose! These cooked-up figures are nothing but the only miserable excuse they want to use to complain about their inevitable defeat in the elections.

Akufo-Addo refused to concede defeat, even though he knew in advance that he was going to lose, and he actually ridiculously blamed his defeat on the intimidation of millions of his fans in the Volta Region of all places, who were not allowed to vote! In the lead up to the Sunyani NDC congress which overwhelmingly elected President Atta-Mills as the as the party's flag-bearer, Akufo-Addo's newspaper, the Statesman predicted a 75% win for President Mills which they interpreted to be "a vote of no confidence" in the Mills Administration.
The news that "President John Mills has won the NDC's National Delegates' Congress in Sunyani by a whooping 96.09% as against Nana Konadu's 3.01%", is obviously good news for some of us, but not all of us. For the Akufo-Addo camp, this was a rude shock. They were predicting 75% for Professor Mills and explaining that to mean a vote of no confidence by his own party. I can already see President Mills being sworn in for a second time. It gives the Mills campaign a boost that even the Akufo-Addo camp will find very difficult to deny.

In the days leading to the Congress, Akufo Addo's Statesman published an article in which they sought to cast doubts on the obvious:

"Surveys, interviews, analyses and information gathered by the New Statesman indicate that President John Evans Atta Mills has been gripped by serious panic following the last minute realization that tomorrow’s presidential nomination of his party may not after all result in the kind of landslide victory he had been made to believe by his GAME (Get Atta Mills Endorsed) campaign team."

We now have something concrete to chew on concerning their so-called "surveys, interviews, analyses and information gathered by the New Statesman"! They could not have been more ridiculous:

"President Mills is said to be particularly worried by the fact that the GAME plan to antagonize and isolate former President Rawlings and his wife has angered many constituency delegates." The New Statesman went on, "Even more worrying for the President is the fact that for two years now his only challenger, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, cleverly maintained a close, caring and intimate contact with a sizeable majority of the ruling party’s constituency officers, of whom 1,433 (out of 1,900 total delegates) voted for her in Tamale on 17 January 2010 as NDC Vice Chairperson, a position from which she resigned recently to contest for the flagbearership."

I repeat the results for an effective comparison:

"President Mills polled a whopping 2,771 votes against Nana Agyemang Rawling's 90 votes.
President Mills took the lead in all ten regions of the country.
President Mill's vote represents 96.7% of the total votes cast, whilst Nana Konadu's votes represents a total of 3.14%."

The New Statesman also predicted tension and violence, but the entire even passed off in a festive mood:

"There are growing concerns that the insults, intimidation, threats, harassment and violence, including the Kumasi shooting, that have blighted the short campaign, could all come to a head at the Sunyani congress.

Officially more than 1,500 police personnel have been deployed to the Brong Ahafo capital. The NDC has also made arrangements for about 2,000 security personnel for the 3-day congress, in addition to the about 1,800 “Azorka Boys” who are storming Sunyani today.

There are concerns from the Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings camp that the security personnel are all part of the GAME plan to put their fear of the ballot (if not the bullet) into FONKAR. But, that appears not to be shaking FONKAR."

It is a great shame to our detractors that this congress has come off smoothly and the NDC has reposed an overwhelming confidence in the President. We must hit the ground running for them to know what running is! The congress has reduced the Rawlingses into an insignificant political nuisance which have no impact on the party. As I wrote earlier, "NDC should go ahead and elect President Mills to continue the good work he has started. There should be no worries about an open foe. The NPP has a hidden one!"

At the end of the day the NPP has more to lose from the "Agenda 2016" menace than the NDC has to lose from the Rawlingses threat. The percentage of constituency under Alan Cash command is far greater than the percentage as demonstrated in the vote. The dynamics do not bode well for the NPP, also because there is a frontal and direct contradictions between the Alan Cash "Agenda 2016" and the Akufo-Addo "Victory 2012".

"A wolf may eat a sheep now and then,
But thousands are killed by men,
An open foe may prove a curse,
But a pretended friend is worse"!

The NDC now has the "open foe" under control, but can the NPP say the same thing about their "pretended friends"? Whilst the Rawlingses are already talking of forming another political party, with preferably, the NDC logo, Akufo-Addo recently included Alan Kyeremanten in his campaign team, despite the visceral hatred of the Alan Cash "Agenda 2016" underground commandos. Alan Cash believes strongly that 2016 is his time, given to him by God himself. The Akufo-Addo "Victory 2012" is a threat to this "God-given" hope of Alan Cash, as Akufo-Addo could extend his political expiring date beyond 2012 to two terms ending in 2020, and making nonsense of the "Agenda 2016"!

Attention! There is a good reason why this is not in the public domain. This shall never be an operation that will be played out in the open. Both sides have come to the selfish conclusion that they need a strong façade of unity, whether 2012 or 2016, if they are to make any impact. Thus publicly they are friends! They have agreed to disagree. They tell each other, "if you are pretending to be a friend, we shall also pretend to be friends!" This is a house irrevocably divided against each other as the Ashanti Region is the strongest base of the party, the "Agenda 2016" which needs a defeat of Akufo-Addo, to spring into action, gives the NDC a fortuitous advantage even if the Rawlingses were to break away from the NDC.

It would be worse than inordinate ambition if they did. At least, the CPP which is always first at the bottom, can have something to beat! What every decent citizen expects from the Rawlingses is a magnanimous acceptance of defeat and recoiling into their shells or crawl away and hide under their respective stones. They can now positively throw their weight behind the voices of their own people, or at least stop themselves from being on the way. The message is clear: they are going to change or they will be changed.

With the NPP as no-match, I think we are entering into this campaign with a strong foot forward.

A LECTURER at the Political Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST), Mr. Amakye Boateng has warned that the success or otherwise of next year’s crucial elections would largely depend on the government’s willingness and commitment towards free, fair and transparent polls.

Asserting that the odds would be against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in December 2012, the KNUST Lecturer cautioned that the ruling party would do everything possible to hold on to power, and that this could trigger unlikely circumstances, if care is not taken.

Mr. Amakye observed that unfolding circumstances cast bad shadows on the electoral fortunes of the NDC, and this he said, would make the ruling party adopt certain unorthodox means in order to maintain power. He said, this situation, coupled with the lackadaisical attitude of the Electoral Commission (EC), should give Ghanaians course to worry. Read more

MY COMMENT:

If it comes to a question of who is more desperate than the other, the answer cannot be an exhaustive one if we forget the obvious political expiring date ticking at the back of Akufo-Addo. We know this is his last chance. We also know that he is a sore-loser. He did it to Kufour in 2000. He did it to President Mills in 2009, and his "all die be die!" chants, do little to calm the impression that he is the more desperate one.

Akufo-Addo was not surprised that he lost the 2008 Presidential elections. He had already been warned about it by Professor Larry Gibson in advance! Yet he was able to pretend that he could have won if his "numerous" supporters in the Volta Region had been allowed to vote! I think there is no need to wait for Akufo-Addo to lose to find out whether or not he is going to accept the results. I think he is automatically going to cry foul, even though his chances this time are even slimmer than the last time around!

From their own admissions, the Akufo-Addo campaign is not going well at all. In his latest article, "Negative Campaign In Ghana And Lessons From .....", Feature Article of Saturday, 8 October 2011, Otchere-Darko, Gabby Asare, the author, who is also the Executive Director of the Akufo-Addo PR-team known as "the Danquah Institute" admits that the NDC deserves "some credit for even succeeding in putting the opposition on the defensive much of the time. "

Akufo-Addo's problems with the crucial Ashanti vote which can make or break is far from resolved. Apparently the "Agenda 2016" Team led by Kufour and Allan Cash is even more optimistic and better organized than the "Victory 2012" in the Ashanti Region. It is the group which controls the Ashanti Region that will decide the winner.

So far, it seems the "Agenda 2016" are not prepared to wait to 2020 before they taste the power that they see as inevitably coming their way in 2016! Having had some of them beaten up for simply showing up at Victory 2012 circles, they need a good convincing to play ball. The NPP is clearly a house divided against itself, even though neither side wants to admit that publicly for obvious reasons.

The chances of Akufo-Addo winning are very slim indeed. He is going into this campaign as the under-dog. And he needs to show some statesmanship at the twilight of his retirement, and graciously accept his defeat. Scheming troubles to attract "the international community" to come and bomb us and impose a losing candidate on Ghana is what I dread! This is why it is important that the narrative of Mr. Amakye Boateng must not go unchallenged.

Kwesi Pratt On President Mills' Poor Performance At the UN

I was shocked and very angry to hear the speech of the President of Ghana at the 66th session of the UN General assembly the other day! Don't get me wrong. This is no criticism the NPP can even pretend to take advantage of because, it is obvious from the WikiLeaks revelation, that as Nana Akufo-Addo secretly put it to the US Ambassador, the NPP and the US are natural allies of the United States", they would have rubber-stamped all the whims and caprices of US imperialism.

"Ye nim NPP firi tete!" We all know how they were described by the CIA as being "pathetically Pro-Western"! Thus we know the NPP is incapable of doing better than President Mills on this issue. Even before the mass killings in the Ivory Coast and Libya began, Kwesi Pratt,Jnr., had already warned that the US was ready to kill Africans in its quest for oil, and the NPP is supporting them! Thanks to the WikiLeaks revelations, we also know who are "the natural allies" of US imperialism in Ghana, and from the horse's own mouth:

"¶2.(C) A casually dressed Akufo-Addo met the Ambassador and POLOFF at the door of his well appointed Accra residence, on the edge of Accra's sprawling Nima neighborhood. Ambassador Teitelbaum said that the U.S. valued its relationship with the NPP, which he believed would someday return to power, and that the Embassy remained open to him. Akufo-Addo replied that the NPP was a natural ally of the U.S." See: Reference ID: 09ACCRA55, SUBJECT: AKUFO-ADDO SHARES POST-ELECTION THOUGHTS WITH AMBASSADOR TEITELBAUM.

And from the position of the NPP on the Ivorian crisis, on Libya, on Palestine etc., we know that Akufo-Addo's opinions are determined by the imperialists who pay this suspected wee-smoker. So this is clearly a criticism that only the CPP can take advantage of! And the NDC needs to get its act together, if they want us to see any difference between them and the NPP!

I wanted to attack the President's speech, but when I heard Kwesi Pratt on the air, I realized he had done all the job I wanted to do so the only thing left for me was a simple transcription. And here is Mr. Pratt's take on the President's speech which so eloquently speaks my own mind and sense of disappointment:

"To be very very honest with you, I am not impressed by the President's address at the United Nations. I am not impressed at all. This is the kind of speech you make to your national assembly, not at the UN General Assembly.

There is no global context of this speech. The United Nations is a world platform where you go and mobilize the world, you understand, on issues and so on. What are we saying at the United Nations?

"We have eliminated schools under trees. We are distributing free exercise books. We are distributing free school uniforms, and so on."

What has this got to do with the United Nations? So, to be honest with you, even though the issues the President raised are critical to the development of Ghana, they are issues not worth the attention they received at the UN General Assembly.

And indeed, just when we were coming, you were playing Nkrumah's speeches and so on, look at the difference! So something is wrong with the speech writers of the President, something is wrong with our Foreign Ministry, and something is wrong with developing a global perspective. And I think we should say it as it is. I am not impressed by this speech at all!

And yesterday, when I listened to the speech, I felt very uncomfortable you understand? Now, you compare the speech that our President gave, to speeches delivered by people like Evo Morales, and see the world attention, see how they grabbed the world attention and so on. Because they are discussing the world! They are discussing the problems of the world and how they see the world. We didn't!

We went there we were talking about distribution of free text books, free exercise book, free school uniforms, schools under trees and so on! I was not impressed at all!

Look, the organization of free and fair elections in Ghana is important. It is important for us, because if we do not organize free and fair elections in Ghana, we risk pushing our country to catastrophe and so on. So it it is absolutely important, but why the UN? Of course, the supply of free school uniforms is very important. It is a major social intervention and so on. But why the UN?

You know, all my other colleagues have spoken about key issues confronting the world today. Today the world is confronted with the bellicosity of imperialism. Today, the United Nations has become something which is in the back pockets of the United States of America. Today, on the basis of things which were found in the WikiLeaks and so on, the United States is killing hundreds of thousands of people across the globe! What is the stand of Ghana?

Do we mean that we have no stand? Are we afraid of the United States of America? Are we afraid of the imperialist powers? What is wrong with us? Look at the bellicosity of imperialism! Look at the ravaging recklessness of imperialism and so on! And we go and talk about free school uniforms!

It's incredible. I must say with all honesty that I was not impressed with this speech. One of the key issues being decided at the United Nations is whether or not the Palestinians are entitled and should be given a seat at the UN. This is a crucial issue. And it is an issue of national liberation! Why? You declare Founder's Day in Ghana. What is Founder's Day? What makes Founder's Day so relevant if it is not our commitment to national liberation, our commitment for the struggle against colonialism?

And yet what is happening in Palestine is that there is harsh colonial occupation, colonial occupation of Palestinian land! It is about racism and so on. Indeed the Organization of African Unity in the 1970s equated Zionism with Apartheid. you understand, equated Zionism with Apartheid! So why can't we be bold enough to join the worldwide movement against Zionism? Why can't we?

In any case, I find that a bit strange, why because, long ago in the 1980s, under the PNDC, Ghana recognized the State of Palestine. In those days, Ghana was one of the few countries which recognized the State of Palestine. And that is why Palestine has a diplomatic mission in Accra, a full diplomatic mission in Accra!

So we took the lead in recognizing the State of Palestine. How come that at this juncture, we are all running away and why? We are afraid of United States of America! And if we are afraid of the United States of America, where can we go? So it is important to bring this matter to the fore. It is absolutely important!

Now, look at what is happening around the world. Look at the thrust that is being directed at countries like Iran and so on, and we are silent on it!"

Surely, our President could have done far better than this! I promised I would be joining the NDC just before the Sunyani Congress. I put that on hold. I can see some action at the CPP front. Even though it is a lot of hot air and no substance, I am eager to give them a second chance. But for the CPP to become relevant, it is the CPP that ought to be making statements of the nature Kwesi just made.

So far, it is still very silent, as imperialism becomes more aggressive, more deadly, and far more arrogant than it has ever been even during the period of slavery and colonialism! Where is the CPP?

Dear All!

I am happy Kwesi Pratt is raising this issue. Nkrumah clearly stands out! His vision of Ghana, not just a paradise for the rich but a Republic for the poor farmers, workers, fishermen and women, students, pensioners, children, and for all citizens of Ghana, irrespective of economic class, social class, ethnic origin, religious persuasion, or gender.

This contribution is unique. That he was able to achieve this in spite of the stiff opposition led by the imperialists with their local collaborators attest to his greatness. We need to remember that Nkrumah launched the Positive Action Campaign at a time when the "property owning democrats" favoured the right to vote for the 1951 Constitution to be based upon the showing receipt of payment of tax on your property, not below a determined value. Simply put, "No property, no vote"! The universal adult suffrage that we take for granted today, was as a result of a bitter struggle against the Gold Coast bourgeoisie who sought social exclusion even at the level of national representation.

This, for me, is what makes Nkrumah the true Founder of the Nation. The most important value we all cherish is the right to be represented, not only by the rich and powerful in society. Nkrumah fought and won this for the common man! No wonder he is so hated by the rich and powerful who wanted to continue to lord it over the rest of us with their inevitable scorn and arrogance! Thank you very much the Osagyefo! We shall forever be grateful and honour this day, not for your reasons of vain glory, but to remind ourselves of the internal dynamics of politics, and why the rich want to continue to be richer, and the poor continue to be poorer.

The so-called champions of democracy even made it illegal to mention Nkrumah's name in public, or keep his photos, books, and audio visuals! The panic reaction came when the late Mr. Johnny Hansen publicly displayed Nkrumah's photo in Kumasi during the Busia regime. Under emergency bill, Parliament sat for seventeen hours to produce a law banning the mere mention of Nkrumah's name! and they call themselves "democrats"! They claim to be champions of human rights, of freedom of speech!

Hm, they even make me laugh!

As Kwame Nkrumah rightly pointed out on Ghana's eve of independence, "The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of the whole continent of Africa!" With the continent still in the belly of the beast of imperialism, cut into fragile neocolonial bantustans that we call fatherlands, not one independence anniversary is worth celebrating!

On the contrary, we need to celebrate Nkrumah. We need to do this not for Nkrumah, but for ourselves and generations yet unborn in order to keep the Pan-Africanist flame blazing! To think of the amount of money the Busia-Danquah neocolonialist tradition of the NPP spent and stole during the Ghana@50, it is more than obscene to hear them complain.

“We in Africa who are pressing now for unity are deeply conscious of the validity of our purpose. We need the strength of our combined numbers and resources to protect ourselves from the very positive dangers of returning to colonialism in disguised forms. We need it to combat the entrenched forces dividing our continent and still holding back millions of our brothers. We need it to secure total African liberation. We need it to carry forward our construction of a socio-economic system that will support the great mass of our steadily rising population at levels of life which will compare with those in the most advanced countries” - Kwame Nkrumah, "Africa Must Unite!", 1960.

We need to remind people of this! Only the enemies of our freedom and development are complaining!

Did you set out to deliberately provoke me?

I find this renewed energy behind the ill-fated call to rename the University of Ghana after J.B. Danquah as opportunistic, a deliberate provocation, and a rather mischievous attempt to re-write the history of our country.

This does not come as a surprise, however. This is not the first time Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., is making this ugly call. And like all previous attempts, this also shall fail. Futile as everyone knows this is, Okoampa's importunate call to rename the University of Ghana after his maternal granduncle is loaded with despicable lies and unreasonably goes against the verdict of J.B. Danquah's own people, in his own constituency who voted against him on each and every occasion he presented himself a a candidate, be it for Parliament, Municipal Council, or as a President of this country.

It is not only the people of Akyem who rejected him. He was rejected by the whole country by more than an overwhelming majority! And his contemporaries who knew him well had every reason to reject him. I have personally analysed and evaluated some of the reasons why J. B. Danquah was so overwhelmingly rejected. This call to rename Ggghana's premier university after J.B Danquah, goes against the collective knowledge and wisdom acquired over the years, concerning the very dark sides of this shady character, so dark as to be "black voted" even by his own elite colleagues in the Lodge!

A darling of the British colonialists, J.B Danquah's highest political ambition was to be a Colonial Secretary, lost a lot of respect in the eyes of his British masters in the role he played in the promotion of human sacrifice and ritual murder in the Gold Coast. Thus, in the end, neither the Akyems, who knew him more than anybody else, Ghanaians as a whole, his colonial owners, nor the CIA, his last refuge, wanted to have anything to do with him! A very serious problem with Okoampa's call is the presumption that most Ghanaians consider this villain a hero. This is a fundamental flaw, and a mischievous one, because it is so easy to find out!

It is annoying enough to hear Okoampa complain about "no significant monument, other than the rough-hewn statue located on the minor rotary – or roundabout – bearing his name somewhere in the Osu district of Accra recalls the memory of Dr. Danquah." This is because, Danquah does not deserve even that statute he is talking about! It is even more annoying when Kwame Okoampa tries to compare J.B. Danquah with Kwame Nkrumah! He has the blinkers firmly in place as he observes:

"Even President Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first postcolonial premier whom Dr. Danquah mentored and introduced into the mainstream of Ghanaian politics, and who already has the erstwhile University of Science and Technology named after him, also has a major institutional landmark on the campus of the University of Ghana named for him."

A question which Okoampa asks, which for a frustrated grand-nephew who badly needs a university named after his granduncle, must have a lot of meaning is:

"The most relevant and logical question, therefore, becomes: Precisely what crime did Dr. J. B. Danquah, the indefatigable spearhead behind the development of Association Football (or soccer), COCOBOD, the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital and even the constitutions leading the erstwhile Gold Coast to independence as Ghana, commit and/or perpetrate against the august republic that he so much loved and fervidly dedicated the bulk of his adult life to?"

My dear Mr. Kofi Kankamah,

I do agree with you up to the point of throwing blows! I don't throw blows, but I can get very angry. The best way to fight these war-mongers is to remain peaceful. They want there to be some confusion in Ghana, and they are working towards that. You play into their hands when you give them blows! Having said that, I must hasten to add, in order not to tempt them with any perception of leniency on our part, I believe in the principle of legitimate self-defence as a moral responsibility of all humanity.

I disagree strongly with the writer. If Akufo-Addo is really the "listening" guy he wants us to believe, he would have taken action long ago against this recalcitrant cousin whose works keep undermining him!

It is even possible that he does not see anything wrong with what Okoampa has been writing all along! Why would he have been made a member of the Governing Board of an Akufo-Addo key front-organisation, the Danquah Institute?

The main issue that is scary here is that Okoampa is working against peace in Ghana. Akufo-Addo can never win a peaceful, transparent, and democratic elections. That is why they want to use "takashi" (force).

The fact that Ghana is still relatively peaceful is a threat to their nefarious ambitions. That is why they are resorting to fanning inter-ethnic animosities at the slightest opportunity. The "all die be die" nonsense of "we the Akans are not cowards" and "Michael “Trokosi” Dokosi Is a Togolese Ewe…", and even his current article on display today, see: Feature Article of Wednesday, 24 August 2011, Columnist: Okoampa-Ahoofe, Kwame “Peace” Is a Relative Term, is nothing but a display of a blood-thirsty desire for war in Ghana.

What explains insulting a whole ethnic group as a part of an electoral campaign? Do you think it is to get their votes? Think again! It is to provoke them to insult back and raise the inter-ethnic animosity. What Okoampa and his owners need to get their man as President is not the vote of Ghanaians, but the support of the "international community" once a conflict begins- Ivory Coast style!

This is what makes people like Akufo-Addo, particularly his silence over Okoampa, extremely dangerous!

Kwame Okoampa at it again! Excited, as usual, because this is not about Ghana's development, but an occasion to proclaim his Akyem supremacist views.

I know what you are doing. There can not be war in Ghana if there are no tensions. Very few Ghanaians are ready to believe that people like you even exist. I knew you were ready to support La Cote d'Ivoire when the then President Laurent Gbagbo claimed Ghanaian territory, you were equally excited and supportive of his move. Here is what you wrote then:

"I am glad that, finally, the Ivorians are beginning to assert their right of access and enjoyment of Ghana’s purportedly new-found oil wealth... It also didn’t quite make a lot of sense to me that an oil find that lay so dangerously close to Ghana’s border with Côte d’Ivoire would also have been so [godlessly] uncharitable as to neatly parcel itself out for the exclusive benefit and enjoyment of Ghanaians while the war-seasoned Ivorians continued to languish in penury." - "Who Are These “Parliamentarian Drivers”? By Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., Ph.D., Feature Article of Tuesday, 16 March 2010.

To Okoampa's great disappointment, Ghana did not have to go to war with the Ivory Coast! In much the same manner, it is important for all Ghanaians of sound minds no to bother this obviously afflicted individual.

The moment you know that Kwame Okoampa is seeking to create a crisis situation in Ghana, such as an inter-ethnic strife, in order to provide a pretext for his imperialist owners to "intervene" on "humanitarian grounds", you would know where I am coming from.

What explains insulting a whole ethnic group as a part of an electoral campaign? Do you think it is to get their votes? Think again! It is to provoke them to insult back and raise the inter-ethnic animosity. What Okoampa and his owners need to get their man as President is not the vote of Ghanaians, but the support of the "international community" once a conflict begins!

Kwame Okoampa is one of the very few Ghanaians who advocates the establishment of US Africa Command headquarters in Accra. He does so with another Akufo-Addo lieutenant, Mr. Gabby Asare Ochere-Darko. We all know very well how it is always Africans who are cutting each others' throats, and the imperialist come in like Knights in a shinning armour to save us from our stupidities!

What if we are not that stupid? What if we simply fall to the temptation because some of us are paid by interested parties to incite and provoke needless inter-ethnic tensions and strife? What will happen if we ignore such people and no war comes to pass? They lose! We win!

People of Ghana, I call upon you to ignore Okoampa so that we can win this struggle for Peace in Ghana 2012!

Was Nana Akufo-Addo once arrested for possession of narcotic drugs at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, USA?

I am wondering why you should devote several parts of an article trying to destroy the credibility of a journalist who is simply contradicting a misleading impression being made by Akufo-Addo that he has the necessary proof that he has never been arrested in the US for drug offences?

If what he is saying are not facts, point out which one of them and say why. At least, Mr. Steve Mallory explained why he thinks the Akufo-Addo team is being extremely economical with the truth!

What they are saying is that, a "categorical statements obtained from the major federal agencies more actively involved with drug cases in the U.S. would have lent more credibility to Akufo-Addo’s lawyer’s statement, and would have gone a long way toward clearing the candidate’s reputation".

"The three-sentence letter from the Port Authority states: “Your letter of February 27, 2008 was received in my office on February 21, 2008, for processing under the Port Authority’s policy on Freedom of Information, copy enclosed. You seek copies of any arrest records related to Nana Akufo-Addo for years 2003 through 2008. We have searched our files and found no records responsive to your request.” The letter was signed by Kathleen P. Bincoletto, indentified as the administrator who handles media inquiries based on the U.S. federal law called the Freedom of Information Act. But according to critics, while the letter makes clear that no records of an Akufo-Addo arrest were found in the Port Authority’s office, it does not confirm that no such arrest ever occurred."

"The statement from Akufo-Addo’s lawyer did not say whether any other American agencies (federal or local) besides the Port Authority and Metropolitan Authority were contacted regarding possible drug-arrest records.

However, the local media in Ghana contacted the DEA office at the U.S. Embassy in Accra for verification of the letters and to seek possible DEA records on the matter. The head of the DEA office at the Embassy, Jeffrey Breeden, was reported as saying “the two letters you sent me are from legitimate law enforcement agencies in the U.S., which state the subject has no criminal record in the U.S.,” and that he saw “no need to provide any further verification reference this issue.”

"The Drug Enforcement Administration is concerned with major drug-trafficking operations. Customs and Border Protection’s primary duties include apprehending individuals attempting to enter the U.S. illegally, and stemming the flow of illegal drugs, and agents of the Transportation Security Administration inspect baggage for prohibited items, including illegal drugs."

"Categorical statements obtained from those three U.S. federal agencies would have lent more credibility to Akufo-Addo’s defense and would have gone a long way toward clearing his battered reputation. But a media offensive – with information only from the managers of regional transportation facilities – helps keep the questions coming."

Kwame Okoampa, try to deal with the problem on hand! If I say "one plus one is equal to two", and you write a million articles about my credibility, it does not affect the equation!

With things going the way they are, a lot of people are talking about big history in action, whether it's the breakup of the Eurozone, or the simultaneous market/economic/political spasm happening in the US. Today Paul Krugman reminds once again that this could be 1937 all over again.
Simon Johnson thinks it could be even worse: The long depression of the 1870s all over again.
Recently Nouriel Roubini got a lot of attention for saying that Marx basically got the battle between labor and capital correct, and that capitalism itself now stood on the brink of collapse.
And even on Wall Street...
UBS' George Magnus has a big piece out on political economy favorably quoting Karl Marx:

“At a certain stage of development, the material productive forces of society come into conflict with the existing relations of production or - this merely expresses the same thing in legal terms - with the property relations within this framework of which they have operated hitherto”.

In ‘The Return of Political Economy’ (Economic Insights, 5th February 2010), I wanted to emphasise how, in the wake of the financial and economic crisis of 2008-09, the interaction between political and economic decision-making would come to play an increasingly significant role in the determination of economic, and market outcomes. Looking at the time at the complicated legacy of de-
leveraging in developed markets, the embryo of the sovereign debt crisis, especially in Europe, and growing social and economic contradictions in China, it was possible to imagine, if not predict precisely, pretty much what we see playing out today.

Now you don’t have to be a member of the Socialist International to recognise that Marx’s words above have contemporary relevance. For him, post-feudal ‘conflict’ would lead to social revolution and the overthrow of bourgeois society, but we know different, not least because the Western model of economic development overhauled and democratised the concept of ‘ownership’ (of the
means of production). Nevertheless, the old guy was a pretty shrewd analyst,
learned a lot about political economy from likes of Adam Smith and David Ricardo among others, and offered some still relevant insights into how and why things happen in the economy and society.

The quote above captures the important idea of conflict or turbulence when events happen that lead to challenges to the power, authority and legitimacy of the existing political and economic order. During the last several months, we have seen a succession of such challenges in the Eurozone, the US, and even, in embryonic form, in China. The recent skittishness in financial markets and increase in risk premiums reflect not only a rise in anxiety about the deteriorating health of the global economy, but the draining of confidence that political elites are up to the task of addressing it.

This note, then, considers the existential crisis in the Eurozone, ‘deficit attention disorder’ in the US and other advanced economies, and China’s current political economy, for which the recent high-speed rail accident serves as an interesting metaphor.

Again, you know it's a real panic when everyone's trotting out the gold guys, and even capitalists think Marx got the endgame right.

Visiting President Says No Short, Fat Wife for Him

The slim, fit-looking president of Botswana — who will be visiting Ghana today — says he is finally ready to get married but made it clear that overweight women need not apply.
President Ian Khama, 57, has never been married, but at a political party meeting last month he said his top requirement for a future wife is that she needs to be tall, slim and beautiful – in a country known for short, heavy set women.
To drive the point home "Africa’s most eligible bachelors" pointed to the Assistant Minister of Local Government Botlhogile Tshreletso and said, “I don’t want one like this one. She may fail to pass through the door, breaking furniture with her heavy weight and even break the vehicle’s shock absorbers.”
The crowd, including the minister who had been singled out, reportedly laughed at the president’s comments.

Khama claims he’s been too busy running the country to find a wife, and has dispatched presidential aides to find a suitable mate.
The president’s status as a bachelor is of general national concern. Khama, elected in 2009, is not only president, he’s also the chief of the Bamangwato people, Botswana’s largest ethnic group. Marriage is a requirement of tribal tradition, something that Khama, so far, has defied.
Khama’s standing as the president as well as a prominent chief has virtually ruled out scolding him for his attitude towards women, and no womens’ groups in the country have publicly criticized him for his comments.
The chairwoman of the woman’s wing of Khama’s ruling party even proposed he marry current Miss Botswana, Emma Wareus, a runner-up in the Miss World pageant. Others said his comments were simply meant to be a joke.
But there is much discussion of whether Khama’s remarks.
“The angle everyone cared about was that he was looking for wife,” said a journalist who works for the national newspaper Botswana Gazette, who covers politics and asked to remain anonymous because of the sensitive nature of the president’s personal life. “Some were saying it was a joke. Some were saying it wasn’t a joke. He meant what he said.” But critics say joke or not, the president’s comments were uncalled for and sexist.
“There were some critics that said he shouldn’t have said the assistant minister was fat,” the reporter said. “He should withdraw his statement because it’s negative against women.”
Khama has always been a bit of a rebel in following traditions. A certified pilot and former army commander, he flies Botswana’s version of Airforce 1 on official trips. He’s also known to be somewhat of a fitness fanatic. Even his birth was controversial. His father, Seretse Khama was deposed as the Bamangwato chief and exiled by the British in 1951 because he married Khama’s mother, a white British woman.
There are rumors that President Khama was once engaged to a doctor from Mozambique, but that the engagement was called off. Despite his recent comments regarding marriage, most people in Botswana believe President Khama will treat the act the same he’s lived, says the reporter. Regardless of tradition, when or if he marries it will be because he wants to and he will do it his way.

One thing interesting about the CPP is that its intra-politics is measured accordingly by two levels of competing forces, the progressives led by Samia Yaba Nkrumah and the reactionary elements led by Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom. Samia, who hardly trumpets her biological relations with the founder of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has been the most formidable individual in recent past to break the pseudo-reactionary myth which holds that the CPP cannot triumph without the NPP and NDC. He won the JOMORO seat in 2008 after contesting NDC incumbent and ruling NPP candidates. With Samia’s emergence in deep CPP intra-politics, many of the progressives who had no hope under the current national party leadership have been rekindled for action in order to make it a formidable force in Ghanaian politics. She serves as a center of attraction for many Nkrumaists sitting on the fence with either other political parties or inactive. She presents a strong message which is appealing to the youth and women of this country.

Nana Akyea Mensah said...: "A pretentious political trick of a wolf in sheep’s clothing and parading as an Nkrumaist, yet principally worshiping ‘political thievery’ in Ghana for Western imperialism. Is it true he is the only flag bearer of a socialist political party who would never speak out against US nonsense in Libya?" I think there is a clear litmus test here for Paa Kwesi Ndoum to pass. "Such lies, of course, began with an upstart Kwame Nkrumah claiming to have been personally called a “Verandah Boy” by Danquah partisans. In reality, Nkrumah had only been accused of deliberately lining up professional and intellectual misfits for cardinal administrative positions in his government."

Kwame Okoampa is once again caught red-handed in his indefatigable attempts to re-write the history of this country. The "verandah boys" remark by J.B. Danquah was made long before Kwame Nkrumah even formed his government. Indeed, Danquah made that remark even before the formation of the CPP in 1948.

According to an eye-witness who is no other person than the daughter of Paa Grant, Mrs Sarah Esi Grant-Acquah, in her essay, "In the beginning was…PAA GRANT" Danquah called the followers of Kwame Nkrumah "verandah boys" long before Nkrumah formed his government. Indeed, this happened in a meeting at Paa Grant's residence at Takoradi, namely Beach Crescent House.

Here is how she recounts the story:

"I remember once there was a meeting at Cape Coast Town Hall and the hall was full with people, including Paa Grant, Kwame, Nkrumah, Blay, de Graft Johnson, etc. After the prayer to open the meeting Kwame Nkrumah spoke, Paa Grant spoke. As soon as Danquah got up to speak there was an uproar – some of the young men disrupted the meeting throwing about chairs and insulting everybody – Paa Grant and all. This confirmed to them that what they heard was true. So, they decided to call Kwame to Paa Grant’s house for a meeting – only Kwame and the Founders. As they were settling down to start the meeting they heard some commotion downstairs, so Dr. Danquah went to the window to verify what was going on. I personally witnessed this event. There were about 50 supporters of Kwame noisily beating drums and singing:

“Danquah, Kwame Nkrumah aye wo den?

Danquah, Kwame Nkrumah aye wo den? Ny?

hon na wo kra no ma ofiri aborokyir bei a ?

“Danquah, Kwame Nkrumah aye wo den?

For each verse they replaced Dr. Danquah’s name with that of the Founders – Papa’, “Ako Adjei” etc. I recognized some of these supporters as frequent visitors of Father. One of them was Pobee Biney – TUC Gold Coast Railways. When they saw Dr. Danquah, they became more agitated. They started insulting and calling his name. This was the time Dr. Danquah asked, “Who are these verandah boys” ? Paa Grant was able to calm them down for a while. He came down once or twice to do so."

Therefore, Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, the professor of creative writing is not writing history but fictitious propaganda when he concludes this silly article with:

"In reality, Nkrumah had only been accused of deliberately lining up professional and intellectual misfits for cardinal administrative positions in his government."

Shame unto you!

Hi Old Soldier!

I have been instructed by the Odikro to give you his revolutionary and fraternal greetings! I have also been asked to doff off my hat for you! which I hereby do, even though you might not see it!

You have demonstrated a very keen and astute understanding of politics. The other day, it was the MP for Manhyia who was complaining about not being a part of the "Agenda 2016". However, the very fact of the denial points to its existence.

Asa B is a very good friend of mine. I was surprised that the Akufo-Addo supporters chased him away and almost lynched him on sight when he tried to visit the "Victory 2012" Headquarters of Akufo-Addo the other day! So much for a house divided against itself trying to stand for elections!

Asa B is simply preparing the grounds for the 2016 parliamentary elections. He has the support of his uncle, Mr. J.A. Kufour. His cousin, Joe Baidoo-Ansah is making similar moves at Effia-Nkwanta, in the Western Region. As for the Nwabagyina, Manhyia, and other major NPP "world banks" in the Ashanti Region, they are already in the pocket of the "Agenda 2016"!

Alan Cash is not taking this fight lightly, and he has the men and women he needs to be effective. Most of them are "eye-red" because from the former National Executives, parliamentarians, ministers, and party officials who felt cheated and muscled out, or simply beaten up by the Akufo-Addo body guards have emerged extremely angry NPP activists who have vowed to put Akufo-Addo in his place!

What we are seeing is the beginning of the end of Akufo-Addo, whose political expiring date is now firmly set for December of 2012!

I like your post: "Alan: If in the unlikely event that Nana Addo were to win 2012 elections, he would certainly go for a second attempt in 2016. Alan will not like to suffer the fate of Nana Konadu by attempt to usurp the position of flag bearer 2016.

This therefore means that if Nana wins 2012, then that would be the end of Alan's dream of becoming President since he would be too old by 2020."

Please, do not go away! No one said this struggle was going to be easy! No one kicks a dead dog! The more you find yourself under attack, the more effective you are becoming! Keep on keeping on!

I like your analysis. Lenin once wrote "the dictatorship of the proletariat is justified, because the opposite is not freedom, but the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie"! Hence the one-party state. However, I also agree with Marx that you can have a revolutionary party in a multi-party environment. I think that even in a strictly proletarian order, several political parties representing working class tendencies can co-exist. That said, I find your analysis very interesting and can understand why you annoy people like Sarpong so much. But I wouldn't be bothered by that if I were you! They are everywhere.

If you read it from wikileaks, and thought a little bit about the level of "curiosity" you would have known that a sight like Ghanaweb is one of the most closely monitored. They know the IP address of every single single user!

I wrote the following at the beginning of the year, before the war in the Ivory Coast and Libya:

"On the much awaited news on Ghana from the wikileaks, the most important to date, will have to be the "West African Littoral directive" issued by the Secretary of State, Mrs Clinton. This is the one we should all be looking forward to its release!

So far, the revelations have unravelled what some are describing as a new window on US diplomacy in Africa. And what makes this even more alarming is the militarization of US diplomacy.

Thanks to Wikileaks, we now know that there is a secret order reportedly signed by Clinton, which "directed American diplomats to act as spies around the world against friends and enemies alike”, the revelation said a particular ‘directive’ covered the coastal countries of West Africa which includes Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin.

As Xcroc puts it, "US Embassies are actively engaged in spying on African countries and citizens, collecting:

-- Biographic and biometric data, including health, opinions
toward the US, training history, ethnicity (tribal and/or
clan), and language skills of key and emerging political,
military, intelligence, opposition, ethnic, religious, and
business leaders. Data should include email addresses,
telephone and fax numbers, fingerprints, facial images, DNA,

President Mills Puts Fear Into Akufo-Addo Camp!

The news that "President John Mills has won the NDC's National Delegates' Congress in Sunyani by a whooping 96.09% as against Nana Konadu's 3.01%", is obviously good news for some of us, but not all of us. For the Akufo-Addo camp, this was a rude shock. They were predicting 75% for Professor Mills and explaining that to mean a vote of no confidence by his own party. I can already see President Mills being sworn in for a second time. It gives the Mills campaign a boost that even the Akufo-Addo camp will find very difficult to deny.

In the days leading to the Congress, Akufo Addo's Statesman published an article in which they sought to cast doubts on the obvious:

"Surveys, interviews, analyses and information gathered by the New Statesman indicate that President John Evans Atta Mills has been gripped by serious panic following the last minute realization that tomorrow’s presidential nomination of his party may not after all result in the kind of landslide victory he had been made to believe by his GAME (Get Atta Mills Endorsed) campaign team."

We now have something concrete to chew on concerning their so-called "surveys, interviews, analyses and information gathered by the New Statesman"! They could not have been more ridiculous:

"President Mills is said to be particularly worried by the fact that the GAME plan to antagonize and isolate former President Rawlings and his wife has angered many constituency delegates." The New Statesman went on, "Even more worrying for the President is the fact that for two years now his only challenger, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, cleverly maintained a close, caring and intimate contact with a sizeable majority of the ruling party’s constituency officers, of whom 1,433 (out of 1,900 total delegates) voted for her in Tamale on 17 January 2010 as NDC Vice Chairperson, a position from which she resigned recently to contest for the flagbearership."

I repeat the results for an effective comparison:

"President Mills polled a whopping 2,771 votes against Nana Agyemang Rawling's 90 votes.
President Mills took the lead in all ten regions of the country.
President Mill's vote represents 96.7% of the total votes cast, whilst Nana Konadu's votes represents a total of 3.14%."

The New Statesman also predicted tension and violence, but the entire even passed off in a festive mood:

"There are growing concerns that the insults, intimidation, threats, harassment and violence, including the Kumasi shooting, that have blighted the short campaign, could all come to a head at the Sunyani congress.

Officially more than 1,500 police personnel have been deployed to the Brong Ahafo capital. The NDC has also made arrangements for about 2,000 security personnel for the 3-day congress, in addition to the about 1,800 “Azorka Boys” who are storming Sunyani today.

There are concerns from the Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings camp that the security personnel are all part of the GAME plan to put their fear of the ballot (if not the bullet) into FONKAR. But, that appears not to be shaking FONKAR."

It is a great shame to our detractors that this congress has come off smoothly and the NDC has reposed an overwhelming confidence in the President. We must hit the ground running for them to know what running is! The congress has reduced the Rawlingses into an insignificant political nuisance which have no impact on the party. As I wrote earlier, "NDC should go ahead and elect President Mills to continue the good work he has started. There should be no worries about an open foe. The NPP has a hidden one!"

At the end of the day the NPP has more to lose from the "Agenda 2016" menace than the NDC has to lose from the Rawlingses threat. The percentage of constituency under Alan Cash command is far greater than the percentage as demonstrated in the vote. The dynamics do not bode well for the NPP, also because there is a frontal and direct contradictions between the Alan Cash "Agenda 2016" and the Akufo-Addo "Victory 2012".

The NDC now has the "open foe" under control, but can the NPP say the same thing about their "pretended friends"? Whilst the Rawlingses are already talking of forming another political party, with preferably, the NDC logo, Akufo-Addo recently included Alan Kyeremanten in his campaign team, despite the visceral hatred of the Alan Cash "Agenda 2016" underground commandos. Alan Cash believes strongly that 2016 is his time, given to him by God himself. The Akufo-Addo "Victory 2012" is a threat to this "God-given" hope of Alan Cash, as Akufo-Addo could extend his political expiring date beyond 2012 to two terms ending in 2020, and making nonsense of the "Agenda 2016"!

Attention! There is a good reason why this is not in the public domain. This shall never be an operation that will be played out in the open. Both sides have come to the selfish conclusion that they need a strong façade of unity, whether 2012 or 2016, if they are to make any impact. Thus publicly they are friends! They have agreed to disagree. They tell each other, "if you are pretending to be a friend, we shall also pretend to be friends!" This is a house irrevocably divided against each other as the Ashanti Region is the strongest base of the party, the "Agenda 2016" which needs a defeat of Akufo-Addo, to spring into action, gives the NDC a fortuitous advantage even if the Rawlingses were to break away from the NDC.

It would be worse than inordinate ambition if they did. At least, the CPP which is always first at the bottom, can have something to beat! What every decent citizen expects from the Rawlingses is a magnanimous acceptance of defeat and recoiling into their shells or crawl away and hide under their respective stones. They can now positively throw their weight behind the voices of their own people, or at least stop themselves from being on the way. The message is clear: they are going to change or they will be changed.

With the NPP as no-match, I think we are entering into this campaign with a strong foot forward.

Is the NPP A Part Of Ghana's Drug Problems?

I am very surprised that the NPP seems to be the only political party unilaterally feeling the heat of a declaration that was essentially meant for all the political parties in Ghana. Let us have another look of what Mr. Akrasi Sarpong said:

“if any politician dares us (NACOB) and uses narcotics money for politics, that person will be sorry. Whether you are an NDC or NPP or CPP or whatever, you will be sorry!”

He did not mention any goat. All he said was that “his outfit has information that some politicians are heavily funded by drug barons adding that NACOB will deal with any politician caught to be using proceeds from the illicit trade notwithstanding the party that the person belongs to.”

Is the NPP a part of the solution or a part of the problem? That is the question!

My second question is for Dr. Kennedy:

How far is it true that during his ill-fated bid for the flag-bearership of the NPP, did he or he did not caution “NPP delegates who would be voting to elect their presidential candidate to be mindful of some of the aspirants who have been going round splashing money on them because the source of the money could be a questionable one.”?

I read the story from the following link, never saw the original news story, that is why I am asking!

I got the story from here: “Tell them that they may know”, by FOKAA (FRIENDS OF KENNETH ASAFO-ADJEI), Feature Article | Sun, 21 Dec 2008:

“If we do not take our time, one cocaine dealer would just take his money and buy this country and put our lives in danger.” – Dr. Arthur Kennedy. “Dr Kwabena Arthur Kennedy also cautioned NPP delegates who would be voting to elect their presidential candidate to be mindful of some of the aspirants who have been going round splashing money on them because the source of the money could be a questionable one.”

Also, whilst at it, is it possible to kindly elaborate on how you managed to examine Akufo-Addo with your bare eyes and be able to claim, as a medical officer, that "Akufo Addo does not a drop of cocaine in his blood"? I read the following on Ghanaweb General News of Sunday, 28 November 2010, "Akufo-Addo Doesn’t Have A Drop Of Blood Tainted With Cocaine - Physician"

"A certified medical practitioner" the story began, "says he can officially state that Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, flag bearer of the opposition NPP does not even have a minute drop of cocaine in his blood. He claims as a medical doctor who has handled several cases of drug abuse and addicts, he can attest to the fact that Nana Addo is not a drug addict."
Just by looking at him, "Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy says he is certain that Nana Addo has never been under the influence of drugs"!
I want Arthur Kennedy to answer the following:
"Is Arthur Kennedy telling us he has a medical laboratory attached to his eye sights?

Did he ask Mr. Akufo-Addo to even open his mouth for him to examine his teeth? You don't need to be a medical doctor to know that one of the symptoms of the premature loss of teeth is as a result of a long period of drug abuse.

Dr. Kennedy cannot tell an HIV infected blood from one filled to the brim with Plasmodium falciparum! What do we say when such a doctor wants to give a clean bill of health to a suspect with a toothless mouth and no hair on his head? We also know that in addition to the premature loss of teeth, the other visible symptom is the loss of hair?"
Kofi Wayo claims majority of the ‘cocaine politicians’ are within the NPP.

“A lot of these cocaine guys are in NPP, yes. I know the big men in NPP all knew about (jailed former NPP MP) Eric Amoateng. Now it comes out that Yaw Anfo-Kwakye, Akufo-Addo’s Chief of Staff (sic) was arrested before for drugs. So why does he still keep him? These are the questions that show we have no morals and ethics. And we suffer for it. Go to London or Paris and see how they search you because you are from Ghana."

The NPP has serious questions to answer Ghanaians about this, and I find the excuses they have been making extremely irresponsible!

The use of narcotic money in our politics

The Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board, NACOB, Mr. Akrasi Sarpong, made news when he warned political parties planning to use drugs in the 2012 campaign to cease and desist. On the face of it, there is nothing wrong with the NACOB’S boss sounding the alarm on drugs.
After all, illegal drugs are a very big global challenge and as a nation, we must do our part in the global effort to reduce the production, transfer and sale of drugs and its multiple negative effects on society. Indeed, currently, it is estimated that about a quarter of a billion people on earth or 5% of people use illegal drugs across the globe. Furthermore, it is believed that about ten percent of these users or 25 million people have addiction problems. West Africa in particular is believed to be a key transit point for drugs produced in South America and headed for Europe. Given all these, the focus being put on drugs by the NACOB’s boss should be welcome.
However, a careful reading of Mr. Sarpong’s comments, together with comments by other government officials show clearly that Mr. Sarpong’s comments may be part of a public relations campaign to link the NPP to drugs and thus dent its reputeation and support.
Following Mr. Sarpong’s comments, Presidential aide Stan Dogbe, said on Ekosii Sen , a discussion program on Asempa fm, that the Kufuor administration “ weakened NACOB to the extent that they cannot do anything and names were mentioned. The former Deputy Chief Executive of the Food and Drugs Board was sent to NACOB as Executive Secretary deliberately so that he cannot do anything.” According to the report of the discussion carried on Myjoyonline.com, “The Presidential aide also noted that the NPP took offense at the warning issued by the Executive Secretary of NACOB not to allow drug money to be used to fund political campaigns because “they know what their record is as far as Ghana’s situation is concerned in 2008 was. It was very clear.
Wikileaks made it clear to us that the NPP benefited from funding from drug barons.” To cap it all, Felix Ofosu, an NDC panelist, noted “ I cannot imagine that a political party will take offense when an officer of the state whose mandate it is to ensure that the worrisome canker of drug trafficking in this country is dealt with issues a firm and robust warning to persons who are desirous of using drug money to fund their campaign to desist from the practice and you have a political party taking offense at such a statement.”
When the Executive Secretary of NACOB states that he has evidence of the
use of drug money to fund political parties but refuses to divulge those names to the public or more importantly to the law enforcement authorities, he is being derelict in his duties and may be committing an offense. If we have evidence of wrong-doing, why are we waiting for new offenses in 2012 when we can prosecute people for offenses allegedly committed in 2008? Why is it that drug offenses that destroy our youth, corrupt our politcs and affects our global image can be ignored while the government gets exercised about petty offenses?
When a Presidential staffer accuses the previous government deliberately weakening NACOB, two conclusions must be drawn. The first is that the Presidential staffer is giving the opinion of his government and the second is that those in power are being derelict by playing politics with an issue that clearly affects our national security.
Often, one hears of the BNI inviting people with evidence to help it investigate crimes. People like Amina of Yutong bus fame, Kojo Mpiani and Wireko Brobbey on Ghana at 50 and even panelists making allegations on talk-shows have all been hauled before the omnipotent BNI.
And yet, they are not interested in the investigation of drug money to fund campaigns? Were Amina and Kojo Mpiani and Wireko Brobbey a bigger threat to our peace and stability than drugs and drug dealers? Or is the tape on this one too with one of those people the BNI is afraid of confronting?
Indeed, yesterday morning, President Kufuor, during an interview to discuss his World Food Program award, was asked pointedly by Ekuoba Gyasi whether he had used drug money in his campaigns.
Subsequently, there have been reports of supposed “crunch cocaine meetings” by the opposition NPP.
Thus, under the pressure of the NDC spin and propaganda machines, we are moving to a point where people can make baseless allegations against others and instead of being asked for proof, we turn to those accused and demand that they prove their innocence.
An analysis of these statements, coupled with the media coverage, in the context of our history shows clearly that the NDC is on another campaign of lies aimed at tarnishing the image of the NPP and benefiting themselves in the 2012 elections.
Remember how in 2008 they said they had all the evidence, including tapes on the Ya-Na’s murder and corruption by the NPP? Then, as part of their campaign, they promised that they would prosecute those implicated after the elections and since they won, all what they have done is lose ill-prepared court cases and give excuses.
In the next year, the NDC is going to insist repeatedly that they have evidence that the NPP is planning to use drug money to fund its 2012 campaign. Then they will reveal that the evidence, includes tapes. Then they will promise that if re-elected, they will prosecute NPP members for using drug money in the 2012 campaign. Then if—God forbid—they are re-elected, they will do nothing till it is time for another election. They have fooled Ghana before and we must not let them fool us again.
They must not be allowed to get away with this. The man who founded the NDC, Former President Rawlings, based his public career on probity and accountability. The man who is President on the NDC ticket is a Law Professor who knows that he who alleges must prove. Let the party of Rawlings, for once, pursue accountability instead of just playing opportunistic politics. Let the party of Mills do its duty by Ghana by for once, backing allegations with evidence and respecting due process. If Professor Mills Professors are watching their fellow star pupil apply the law, they will weep today in sadness and disappointment.
As Ghanaians, we need to have those who used drug money to influence our politics not only exposed but brought to Justice. This is a non-partisan issue. Our nation must come before our parties.
It is important that we all fight the irresponsible attempts to politicize the very serious issue of drugs.
Our history clearly shows that individuals involved in drugs have come from all backgrounds and there is no evidence that they have any particular political coloration.
When some lawyers made unsubstantiated remarks about judicial corruption, there was a general demand that they should substantiate their allegations because “ he who alleges must prove.” This clearly is a case that demands that in the national interest, those who are alleging must prove.
The time to address that is now. There is no assurance that in the middle of a political campaign, Mr. Sarpong, who owes his job to President Mills and the NDC, can and will be impartial in calling things as he sees them.
How can we fix this
serious problem?
First, the BNI must, with the same enthusiasm with which it pursued minor cases like Amina and others, invite the NACOB boss and Stan Dogbe to come forward and substantiate their allegations. And once they get the evidence, the BNI and the Attorney General’s department must pursue the evidence wherever it may lead.
Second, since the President was elected to enforce our laws, given how important this issue is to the health of our politics, he should consider the establishment of a Presidential Commission to investigate the role drugs have played in our politics and to recommend ways of insulating our politics from the malevolent influence of drugs in the future.
Given the serious nature of these allegations, I believe Parliament must summon the NACOBS boss to explain why he has not forwarded his evidence to the appropriate quarters for prosecutions where warranted.
Third, I believe that the political parties, as public institutions who are being maligned must take steps to protect their images.
Therefore, today, I urge all political parties to seek legal remedies to require that the NACOB boss and Mr. Dogbe make their findings available to the BNI and the Attorney General for appropriate action. The willingness of the political parties to abide the idle and irresponsible talk of people like Mr. Sarpong and Mr. Dogbe may inadvertently convey the erroneous impression that they are guilty.
Fourth, where are our Non-governmental institutions that are supposedly pledged to improving our politics? It will be refreshing to see these groups join together in a joint enterprise to rid our politics of drugs.
Finally, while these measures proceed, I am consulting attorneys regarding my right to legal remedy as a proud member of the 2008 NPP campaign that has been tarred by innuendo and linked to drugs by NDC leaders. Based on the advice of my attorneys, I plan to explore my rights, as a citizen and a proud NPP member, to protect the image of all the fine men and women who were part of that campaign. As a Ghanaian patriot, I do not believe that drug money should have anything to do with our politics and that he who alleges must prove.
If powerful politicians can fund their campaigns with drug money without being held to account, what right do we have to punish the little people who are drug couriers? Our laws, must deal equally with big and small people alike and this drugs issue is a very significant test case. That is why it must be exposed and resolved once and for all.

The Burning Man Strikes At The Heart Of Ouattara's Legitimacy!

The following story which appeared in the Chroniquesénégalaises caught my attention recently. I have been literary traumatised by it. It has become intrusive and repetitive of late that the only way to deal with it is to talk about it. The story states that on 1 April 2011, while committing the killings FRCI Duékoué Sogoni BAMBA, communications advisor of Alassane Ouattara, had a picture of a man burned to death on France 24:

This photo was presented by Ms. Bamba as an exaction by supporters of Laurent Gbagbo, to justify the bloody offensive of FRCI is indeed that of Ernesto Alfabeto Nhamuave who was burned alive in Johannesburg May 18, 2008 during a riot:

"Yes they [pro-Ouattara FRCI] down south, and I think it's in self defence because you can not have a man who ruled a country, and may be willing to let his supporters burn young people like that! You can not! Today, we can not watch this. [...] We must show what Gbagbo's men have done, it is therefore legitimate defence!"

Xenophobia in South Africa

The Guardian reported: "Mobs rampaged through poor suburbs of Johannesburg in a series of attacks against foreigners, mainly Zimbabweans, over the weekend, killing seven people, injuring at least 50 and forcing hundreds to seek refuge at police stations.

Two of those killed were burned to death and three beaten to death. The injured suffered gunshot and stab wounds. Johannesburg police were warning motorists to avoid the city's business district. "It's spreading like a wildfire and the police and the army can't control it," said Emmerson Zifo, a Zimbabwean."

"In a clash between the poorest of the poor, gangs of local black South Africans descended on informal settlements and shanty towns, armed with clubs, machetes and torches, and attacked immigrants from Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabawe. Locals accused these immigrants of taking jobs away from them, among other grievances. Over the course of those two weeks, over 60 foreigners were killed, several hundred injured, and many thousands of immigrants are now displaced, or are returning to their home countries. He said he could not understand how South Africans could be hostile to foreigners when the same foreign countries had given refuge to South Africans during the liberation struggle." the Guardian

The violence started last week in the old Alexandra shanty town. The clashes spread from Alexandra to the townships of Diepsloot, Thokoza and Tembisa.

"Those taking part in the attacks complained of the "theft" of jobs by foreigners. Zimbabweans have been flooding into South African in search of work following Robert Mugabe's destruction of the local economy." the Guardian.

The US Supreme Court has cleared the way for a lawsuit against major international companies accused of aiding South Africa's apartheid system.

The court said it could not intervene over the case because of a potential conflict of interests.

Four of the nine justices had ties to the firms involved and could not rule on the case, it said.

By law, at least six justices must sit in order for the Supreme Court to hear a case.

As a result, the court could only uphold a lower court ruling allowing a lawsuit to go ahead against firms accused of aiding South Africa's apartheid system.

Apartheid was a policy which enforced a separation of the nation's races from the 1940s until the early 1990s.

The victims are seeking damages reported to be worth more than $400bn (£205bn).

Financial interests

Among the corporations accused in the lawsuit are oil firms BP and Exxon Mobil, banks including Citigroup and Deutsche Bank and multinationals like General Motors and Ford.

The plaintiffs bringing the lawsuit argue that the corporations violated international law by assisting South Africa's former apartheid government.

An appeals court in New York ruled last year that the lawsuit, being brought under a US law which allows foreigners to sue in US courts over breaches of international law, could proceed.

The Bush administration, the current South African government and business groups had sought the intervention of the Supreme Court.

They argue that the legal action is damaging to international relations and may threaten South Africa's economic development.

However, the court's hands were tied by federal laws requiring at least six of the nine justices to hear any case.

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Stephen Breyer and Samuel Alito all had to sit out because they had financial interests in some of the companies concerned.

According to the Associated Press news agency, Mr Roberts owns stock in Hewlett Packard, Mr Alito has shares in Exxon Mobil and Mr Breyer has stock in Colgate-Palmolive, Bank of America, IBM and Nestle.

Justice Anthony Kennedy sat out the case because his son works for Credit Suisse, another company concerned.

'These people get killed for nothing'

The headlines of the papers at the newsstand at the Bree Street taxi rank on Monday reflect the deadly xenophobic violence that spread around Johannesburg on the weekend.

"Violence flares up," the Sowetan says. "Flames of hate" is the headline of both the Star and the Times. It's a normal working day in Newtown, but it's not business as usual.

In Jeppe Street, several shops are closed for the day. Metal roller-doors are down and the streets are quieter than usual. After a night of anti-foreigner violence that claimed at least 22 lives and in which scores were injured, frightened people fled to the sanctuary of the Jeppe police station.

Rajia Rashid (26), from Pakistan, has opened his blanket shop in Sauer Street, but his brother's shop in Small Street is closed.

Says Rashid: "In that part [of town], it's bad. They are beating up foreigners. Malawi people, Mozambican, Zimbabweans, Indians. These Zulu people kill everyone."

Witnesses of the violence in the inner city on the weekend had also reported that Zulus were among those attacking both foreigners and South Africans of other groups, such as Pedis and Shangaans.

Rashid arrived in the country six years ago and gets on well with South Africans. "They are nice people, nice in helping you, nice for business. But Jacob Zuma is only for the Zulus, that's why this is happening," he says.

Although a foreigner himself, Rashid is not afraid. "I am not scared. I'm from Pakistan, I am used to these things."

Suddenly, the sound of a crowd fleeing the violence is heard. People are running past Rashid's shop towards Pritchard Street, and customers in the shop start panicking. Rashid's colleague immediately rolls down the metal doors, urging people to get out, otherwise "you'll get stuck in this shop".

Itumeleng (20), one of the people running down the street, is on her way to Braamfontein's Damelin College to write an exam. "This is ridiculous," she says. "These people get killed for nothing. These people helped us, a lot of us went to exile in these [foreign] countries. Now these people need help. We might also have a rainy day [in the future]."

Many foreigners are now crowded into the Central Methodist church, known as a haven for asylum-seekers and refugees. On Sunday, 300 more fled to the church looking for sanctuary.

Cyril Sikhosana (24) arrived at the church at about 3pm on Sunday after he had fled his house in Rosettenville. "A group of Zulu guys from the neighbourhood came. They asked around where foreigners lived. They were violent, they had sticks and guns but they didn't use them."

Sikhosana managed to escape through the back door. "Initially we ran, but after a while we started to walk, because we realised that we were attracting attention. I was very scared, because I had read in the newspapers that people had been killed.

"I don't think it is good for foreigners to come here any longer. I worked here and all my property is gone overnight."

Now that many of these people are no longer going to work during the day for fear of being attacked, the church is packed with people. John Dumba (24), who has lived in the church since March, says: "They [the attackers] rather attack people one by one. Here we are with a lot of us. People are depending on numbers now."

But, according to Dumba, "they already tried to attack us twice. On Sunday a lot of Zulus came in kombis. They were dropped off by taxi drivers at four places, each group with five people. They were shouting 'Makwerekwere [foreigners].'"

Bishop Paul Verryn expresses the atmosphere of fear in his church. "Yesterday [on Sunday] at the service you could feel the restlessness. At the end we gave people the opportunity to talk about the things that happened. That calmed things down a bit."

Verryn is very worried about the situation, calling for the nation to no longer to ignore the gap between the haves and the have-nots. "We must no longer ignore that communities are very disgruntled; this is really the poor fighting the poor ... It's an out-of-control paradigm."

How is he going to cope with the increase of refugees in a church that is already packed with people? "We are not going to cope. It's becoming impossible now with 1Â 800 people. But we do what we have tried to do the last four years."

Says Sikhosana: "All these people are involuntary unemployed now because they can't go to work. We don't have food, how are we going to live here? ... I was sitting all night, there is no space to sleep."

Dumba adds: "We all don't sleep. We are anticipating an attack all the time."

This is disgusting! Abolish the capital punishment! This man, if guilty, deserves a very severe punishment. It can be life, but don't take away his life. It is not up to anyone to do so!

An opposition to the capital punishment is not a support for the criminals, but upholding the sanctity of life for all human beings without pre-conditions. That is what the state should be about!

Why Rawlings Backs His Wife

This is plain silly! The amount of chutzpah required to make such an utterance is remarkably impressive! If Kwesi Pratt Jnr., were to be opposed to Rawlings simply because of butter on his bread, why did he refuse Rawlins’ butter and go to prison seventeen times fighting his dictatorship? Mr. Kwame Wiafe, Augustus Owusu-Gyimah, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., and Akoto Ampaw made Adu Boahene the Chairman of the Movement for Freedom and Justice. They worked together for two years before there was any visible signs that the PNDC would be giving in to the popular demands of Ghana’s pro-democracy forces. After winning his party’s nomination as the NPP flag-bearer, we decide to visit Prof. Adu Boahehe’s house at the Airport Residential Area, to go and congratulate him.

It was a very familiar place. Some of us were even friends with his wife. There was always a bottle of “Castle Bridge” or some other “London Dry Gin” on the table. All you needed was a clean glass to help yourself. I always did! The conversations were always friendly, even when we felt that the Prof. was not pulling his weight enough.

A day or two after Adu Boahehe’s victory, upon arrival at his residence, even Kwesi Pratt Jnr was subjected to a body search for weapons before being allowed in to go and congratulate the Professor. It was very shocking and extremely disappointing. We all knew that Kwesi and Adu Boahene were not bossom friends, but to think that Kwesi would hide a weapon on himself to go and assassinate Adu Boahene was mind-blowing!

We continued to support Adu Boahene all the same, simply because, at that time the only thing that mattered for us was to prevent the (P)NDC from consolidating itself further in power. I met Kwesi in London just before the 2008 elections. We both agreed that it was very important for the NPP to leave the scene and not to consolidate its impunity and corruption and incompetence on Ghanaians.

These were followed up with public utterances by Mr. Pratt which coherently explained the basis of our principled stances on national issues. One thing about every genuine bastard who is greedy is that he thinks that everyone else is like him – a greedy bastard! Kwesi Pratt is never alone! We have clearly accounted for our political stances. They are very simple and straight to the point. This is not rocket science.

I am therefore very confident that the discerning public would correctly read in between the lines, and know without effort whose stomach sac interferes with his political allegiances? Is it the famous Amnesty International acclaimed “prisoner of conscience”, or Kofi Adams?

He even makes me laugh. I was arrested with Kwesi in 1992, and sent to the Accra Central Police station near the Ghana Cocoa Board Headquarters. It would be my first time in the hands of the Rawlings’ dictatorship. For Kwesi however, it was his seventeenth time! Is this idiot saying that his boss was arresting Kwesi in order to protect his pot belly?

Who is talking to protect his stomach here? One thing is clear. Considering the level of nonsense coming out of the Rawlings camp, President Mills is going to win massively. The spokesperson of the Rawlingstas has nothing sensible to say. We just have to put up with his comic relief until his boss comes down crushing!
Does this not somehow explain rather why Rawlings backs his wife!

Sergeant Malik; your drink! Pte Sylvester Tanti Adamogire, Drink! Pte Abdulai Gamel, Drink!! Ekow Bonard, have a drink! Bartels; here is your drink. Kwame Adjimah, come and take your drink. We cannot mention all of you; but to all our departed friends, come for your drink. Tomorrow is June 4. On a day like this, we remember all of you. All of you who rose up in the name of probity, accountability, anti-corruption, abuse of power, impunity, defence of truth, and protection of the poor and disadvantaged.

LAC Osei Tutu; have a drink. You were the first one to fall. That was on May 15. You did not live to see what happened three weeks later. But when others heard of the reason behind your move, they rallied and took action to continue what you had set out to do. When you fell, your wife was pregnant. Those with whom you moved on May 15 did not ask about, nor even visit your pregnant wife.

Lt Agyeman-Bio! Have a drink. You are the real hero. You fell on June 4 even before the battle was won. It was your bravery and decisiveness that made you lead the troops that very dawn. You led from the front, not from the rear. What an Osahene! The ideals that you held, that spurred you on to make that decisive move will live on. It does not matter that some of those who you thought held the same views as you have turned into something else. They have turned their backs on the very things that you thought they stood for, and because of which you were prepared to lay down your life. They have now done very well for themselves, doing the very things that you stood against and which you thought they also stood against.

Lieutenant, in this world, there are people who for their own selfish reasons, would pounce on other people’s noble ideals, own them, and make everyone else think that they believe in them; when in reality they do not believe a jot of those ideals. What they do is to ride on the back of those ideals, and also on the backs of people who share those ideals, while scheming to have personal advantage.

Now that you are on the other side, you know them more clearly now. That they should have made you to think that they believed in the same ideals with you and you exchanged you life for theirs is unacceptable. But now you know the truth.

I cannot possibly mention all the names of the fallen heroes, because if I start, we will not finish this libation. So collectively, all of you on the other side, come and take your drink. You are the unsung heroes whom very few people know.

The heroes that died later, all because you were betrayed, should come for your drink. Cpl. C.C. Addai. Drink. You died while in exile in Lome in a gruesome way. As you lay dying, you kept saying that you did not want to be buried on foreign soil. You wanted to return to Ghana even if you would be shot in your sick state.

Sgt. Matthew Awaar, (the very handsome one). Drink! Cpl. Halidu Giwa. Drink!. Sergeant Malik; Drink! Pte Sylvester Tanti Adamogire, Drink! Pte Abdulai Gamel, Drink!! They told you that 31^st December was to redeem the masses from poverty and want. They told you that although you were from Northern Ghana, it did not matter if you overthrew a Northern President, because the struggle was not about ethnicity. In good faith, you agreed. Now, look at what they did to you later. Before you were murdered (for that is what it was), you were called “bows and arrows carriers”. What a turn-around! You paid with your lives, not knowing that they only wanted to join the elite.

Akatapore (Saarge) is still alive. Zaya, Napoleon, Atamps, Gariba, Yen, Explo, Nubuor, Braimah, Adabuga, Mambisi, Ali Yemoh, Okpara are all alive. They all remember you. It’s been some time now since you departed, at the hands of those for whom you had initially risked your lives. Drink! You were all shot in the back, against the rules of the military, by people for whom you fought to bring about 31^st December. After you were shot dead, your lifeless bodies were dragged along the ground in a manner that even a sheep will not be treated. But you were soldiers, who should not have been treated in that way. You were the foot-the soldiers, who were not just abandoned, but murdered in cold blood by people that you originally trusted.

Private Abrokwa, you died while on duty, thinking that you and people in the leadership were following an ideal. Today, come and see. The ideal has been abandoned and replaced by self-seeking escapades. Cpl. Frimpong, while on duty, working to achieve the ideal, you drowned on Nzuleso, in the Western Region.

Dzakpata is here. Steiner is here. Your premature deaths meant that you could not build the many mansions that the others have built; you could not send your children abroad to have their education. You just died; just like that. Very few people remember or know you. But as for us, you are always in our hearts.

Bartels, another ultimate foot soldier. We remember you as if it were yesterday. Dzakpata and Steiner salute you. After foot soldiering for so long, you managed to get yourself a fishing licence. With the help of some foreign investors, you acquired fishing trawlers to undertake fishing to contribute to the economy. However, he came, took away your licence, and gave it to his mother. You then became poor again, eating roasted groundnuts like we used to do before. When you were diagnosed of diabetes, you did not even have the money to pay for health services. Your leg was amputated; and you finally died. How can a person be so callous to his fellow man, especially one who was supposed to be a friend? But that is how they treat their foot soldiers. These days, they have resurrected the foot-soldier trick again. Strengthen the hearts of those you left behind to be bold.

Kwame Adjimah, here is your drink. On the morning of 31^st December, when several people were hesitant to come out to support, you accompanied me to the June 4 farm at Kantamanso, to bring back the members of the Nungua June 4 Movement branch to hold the first demonstration. Later, they shot you, first in the legs; and as you fell down, you held the feet of your PNDC assailant and begged him not to kill you. What he did was to point his pistol to your head, and pressed the trigger, blowing your head apart. Now the Nungua branch of June 4 Movement is dead. Alex Bolabi, Naa Adjeley, Stephen Borquaye etc. are all now “missing in action”.

To all of you, soldiers and civilians, we know that you were well-intentioned. Even in spite of the betrayals, we plead with you to forgive your killers and those whose “thank you” for all your work for them was to murder you. Have a drink.

On such a day, our fond memories of you come to the fore. Be calm. Don’t haunt your traitors; because if you do, you may be blamed for any calamity that might befall them. Ashantis are also going to vote for President Mills because if they vote for Akufo-Addo, he will block the chance of Alan Cash in 2016. I would rather worry about that problem. Do you know why the last time a supporter of Alan Cash tried to approach the Akufo-Addo Victory 2012 office, he was nearly lynched? It was Asamoah Boateng, and they simply accused him of belonging to the "Agenda 2016"!

This is a far more formidable force in the Ashanti Region. Don't forget that Kufour himself is an Alan Cash man!

Here is a crook whose wits are shorter than his own height! Whom is he trying to deceive? About three days ago, Akufo-Addo came out to say he is adopting the NDC 2008 strategy of house-to-house campaign, including giving big and empty promises to the electorate in order to be voted into office! At least, that is what they believe happened.

Consequently, Akufo-Addo promised "free education for all up to the secondary school"! Wow!

If by this, the NPP is trying to tell Ghanaians that Ethiopia's Meles Zenawi, Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal, President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, and ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor of Ghana are to be taken as some of the best Presidents Africa has ever had, they need to think again! From the way imperialism works, the more they praise our leaders, the more we should suspect them as traitors and puppets!

What makes the NPP think that the leaders of the 8 richest countries in the world are the best placed people to determine the best leaders of some of the poorest regions on the planet? Why do they not simply tell us that colonialism never happened, and the Trans-Atalantic slate trade is a myth invented by communists? And that far from keeping themselves busy promoting puppets and organizing regime change all over the place against "non-complying", patriotic, and often democratically elected leaders, the major pre-occupation of the G-8 remains the maximization of profits for their multinational corporations?

"I once met one of the soldiers who freed him from the Guard Room during the June 4th coup." Nana Odikro recalled, "His name was 'Bezenkyi' - the spelling must be wrong. He said it to me without spelling it. He had just been released from prison when I met him. He had been jailed and tortured by the man he had risked his life to free!"

"He told me his name is Hauza for "Black blood". Bezenkyi told me when they went to liberate Rawlings from prison, he did not know they were there to free him. He thought they were soldiers coming to take him for a firing squad! Rawlings would not let go of his hands from the prison bars!"

Nana continued, "'I want to see my mother before I die!' Rawlings screamed at the top of his voice and almost put everyone involved in the plot to free him in danger!"

I was getting very interested in Nana's story so I asked him, "So what happened?"

"They had to pry his hands by force and beat him up to shut up before all of them got killed!" Nana replied, "The funniest part of this story is that as he was refusing to leave the Guard Room and clutching to the metal bar, wanting to see his mother before he died, he was so visibly scared that "he piss for trouser", as Bezenkyi would put it. He wanted to say that Rawlings was so much overcome with fear that he pissed in his trousers!"

Nana Odikro concluded by saying, "This time around, if he continues to play the fool, we should make him shit in his pants!"

Nana Akufo Addo said something before he released the "all die to die" bombshell. This is what prejudices the generality of the all die be die slogan. It gives it the special context. He said, "We Akans are not cowards". None of the examples you have given appeals to one ethnic group against another. If Akufo-Addo had said "We NPP are not cowards", it would have been no different from what you claim was said ny the NDC supporters.

The simple answer to your silly question is a big "NO!"

You ask: "Did our Flag-bearer and President in-Waiting, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not make that pronouncement based on a certain premise? "

Your answer is that the premise of the NDC encompasses all Ghanaians, irrespective of ethnicity, whilst Akufo-Addo's "We Akans" addresses ONLY Akans! This is a monumental blunder. And no amount of nonsense you spin can tranform "Akans" into the NPP!

On the 29th of April, 2011 at 11:15 AM, the attention of the facebook Rally of the Coalition Against Foreign Intervention in Africa was drawn to a story posted on the web by Kirill Svetitskiy, in which he makes the claim that it has been "reported by anonymous official of Russian Foreign Intelligence Service that the special divisions and army units of France, Great Britain and USA will take part in the special operation aimed to assassinate informal Libyan leader before coming Monday, May 2, 2011."

Nana Akyea Mensah recalls: “I did not know what to make of it, so I sent the link to Crossed Crocodiles, a very knowledgeable Pan-Africanist analyst with a simple question: "Hi Xcroc, What do you make of this?" His response was:

“I have some questions in my mind about the site. It looks to me like an ad hoc site used to plant stories. But I'm not certain, and don't know why or who. It will be interesting to watch what happens in Italy this week. I doubt we can find a trustworthy story about what is going on in Benghazi. But I'm trying to see if I can find out more. “

We were thus wondering what to make of it when we heard of a NATO attack on Col Gaddafi's Bab al-Aziziya compound in Tripoli in which his son, Saif al-Arab Gaddafi and three of Gaddafi's grandchildren were killed. Foreign reporters were shown widespread damage to the building, and Libyan government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said "The leader with his wife was there in the house with other friends and relatives. The leader himself is in good health." Col Gaddafi's wife was also unharmed, he said. "This was a direct operation to assassinate the leader of this country," the spokesman added.

This came within hours of another bombing raid earlier at a radio station during what appeared to be a live broadcast by Colonel Gaddafi. The BBC's Christian Fraser in Tripoli says that unusually the alliance issued its statement within hours of the strike, well aware of the political implications. The statement said: “NAPLES -- NATO continued its precision strikes against Qadhafi regime military installations in Tripoli overnight, including striking a known command and control building in the Bab al-Azizya neighbourhood shortly after 1800 GMT Saturday evening. “All NATO’s targets are military in nature and have been clearly linked to the Qadhafi regime’s systematic attacks on the Libyan population and populated areas. We do not target individuals,” said Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard, Commander of NATO’s Operation Unified Protector.

Thus, it did not take so long between the time I read the story of a plot to kill Gaddafi and the second attempt to bomb him within 24 hours! As I was struggling with the issue with Gaddafi's son and three grandsons dead, Crossed Crocodiles expressed my own fears and apprehensions thus:

"Hi Nana, Very interesting. Shortly after reading this I heard Saif Qaddafi and other family members have been murdered by bombs today. That makes me take this more seriously. If there is a second front in Benghazi, and the Italians may withdraw their support, I can see the pressure might be on for the coalition of the imperialists. My initial response is that someone is leaking either information or disinformation to someone, but I don't know who or why, or whether to trust the information. Today's bombing makes the story seem more credible. I've asked some questions. If anyone tells me anything worth knowing, I'll pass it along. All best regards! Xcroc". I took a second look at the story:

The Murder of Muammar Qaddafi Is Planned For May 2, 2011

"This urgent decision was taken due to a chain of failures that have ruined original plans by anti-Libyan coalition: successes of regular Libyan army, the joining of Bedouin tribes to pro-Qaddafi forces and the creation of “second front” in Benghazi. This front consists of the armed groups of civil militia, ordinary citizens who are seeking restoration of the rule of law in Benghazi. They declared that they wouldn’t stand so-called “rebels” any more in their city, who are fighting each other and expose violence on city’s population.

The main reason for so fast-track preparations of the assassination of Libyan leader is the recent decision of Italian parliament to discuss the course of anti-Gaddafi company during a special session, which will be held on May 3, 2011. Now the matter is still handled by Silvio Berlusconi’s party. Emerging disagreements in the ruling coalition of Italy on the issue of war in Libya may lead to the decay of the Italian coalition next week. In this case Berlusconi will lose his post of Prime Minister and Italy would leave anti-Libyan coalition for some time or maybe even forever.

Such political success of anti-war sentiments in Italy can lead to the splash of similar anti-war moods in other countries that would make impossible to reach the declared goals of the war against Gaddafi. Leaders of Great Britain, France and the USA perceive this perspective quite seriously and so the proposal to kill informal leader of Libya, Muammar Gaddafi, not later than 2nd of May – before the session of Italian Parliament – was accepted. The leaders of coalition are sure that Gaddafi’s death would destroy spiritual union of Libyan forces and make them incapable to resist international aggression or at least would significantly weaken and demoralize them.

"Today's bombing makes the story seem more credible"!

I could not have agreed more. I shot back to Crossed Crocodiles: "Yes, Xcroc, Very strange story! I did not know about the Benghazi second front and the decaying of the Coalition in Italy within 24 hours! They look credible triggers that seriously complicate the war against the Coalition. Would be eager to read whatever you can comb out on this. Would let you know what I come across further. Live and thrive!!!"

Meanwhile, Micah Zenko, a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, has said that the strikes on the command posts are “clearly” beyond the mandate of the Security Council resolution, but he called the new attacks a strategy to “terminate the campaign” as quickly as possible. And, he said, war planners at NATO headquarters in Brussels have been “telegraphing it pretty openly” that the bombings would include strikes against Colonel Qaddafi’s command posts.

But KAREEM FAHIM and MARK MAZZETTI argue in NYTimes.com “NATO officials say that the intense bombing in Tripoli is designed to batter Col. Qaddafi’s military apparatus. Such a strategy is freighted with risk for the already fragile coalition. In Libya, the officials argue, the boundary between legitimate military targets and residential compounds is often blurry.“ And almost every segment of the Libyan population has received its fair share of the bombs. Schools, rebels, hospitals, residential buildings housing civilians, young and old, women and children, even the mentally retarded children, have not been spared!

"More and more facts indicate that the purpose of the coalition is the physical destruction of Gaddafi," the Russian parliamentarian was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying. And Xinhua reports on May 1, "Moscow was increasingly concerned about the fatalities among Libya's civilian population, including the death of three grandsons and the youngest son of Muammar Gaddafi, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday. Russia thus doubts the statement by the NATO coalition which says NATO's air strike are not targeting Libyan leader Gaddafi, the statement said."

"Moscow perceives with growing alarm the reports about victims among civilians. The statements by the coalition members that the airstrikes against Libya are not aimed at physically destroying Muammar Gaddafi and his family members cause serious doubts," the statement reads.

Meanwhile, the British Prime Minister David Cameron, has said publicly that "there was no legal authority for regime change in Libya." Thus quite apparently, they have a legal authority to kill him! And I think the reason why they are in such a hurry to do say has been summarized by 'US Defence Secretary Robert Gates said expanding the goal of protecting civilians could divide what he described as a "very diverse coalition"'.

“A fragile coalition” Or A "very diverse coalition"?

"The decay of the Italian coalition next week"? The forthcoming Parliamentary Session on Tuesday, 3rd May could lead to the fall of a very fragile coalition government likely to fall with just one or two abstentions. Such as fall will definitely mark the beginning of the end of the imperialist conspiracy to kill Gaddafi or even effect a regime change, if Gaddafi survives the next 72 hours!

It has been reported earlier that "NATO struggled on Monday to overcome divisions about a role in the military operation in Libya, as France resisted pressure to let the alliance take over and Turkey criticised the bombing campaign. As more nations joined the Western coalition pounding Gaddafi's forces, NATO was still debating whether, and in what form, the Western military organization should join the UN-mandated intervention.

NATO members France, Britain and the United States have acted as individual nations in the air and sea campaign against Gaddafi's regime, with US military officers coordinating operations from bases in Germany and Italy. But London, Rome and several other alliance members favour moving to a centralised NATO command, with Norway even saying its six fighter jets would stay grounded as long as it was unclear who was running the operations."
Italy's coalition against Gaddafi is clearly struggling to overcome a growing resentment against Sarkozy: “We will not leave to others the task of deciding what will happen,” said Italian Defence Minister, Ignazio La Russa on Thursday 28th April 2011. Italy, the former colonial power in Libya, has made airbases available to coalition forces but said previously it could not allow its forces to fire for fear of awakening memories of its sometimes brutal occupation.

Northern League objections have been tied in with unease over the role of France, following disagreements over issues ranging from the treatment of a wave of illegal North African migrants to a French bid for Italian food group Parmalat. “We have become a colony of France,” the Northern League’s bluntly spoken leader Umberto Bossi was quoted as saying on Wednesday following a visit to Rome by French President Nicolas Sarkozy a day earlier. Sarkozy, one of the main sponsors of the campaign against Gaddafi, welcomed Italy’s decision to step up its operations."

Conclusion:

It looks like the only reason why Gaddafi still remains alive is because, as General Ham puts it "Washington knew little about his whereabouts"! And the two airstrikes, on the tv and on the home pretty much show they are playing "Jack, where are you?" with long range missiles.

With the coalition unravelling and Gaddafi promising on Sunday "a long, drawn-out war with no limits" in a speech broadcast on state television but without appearing on camera, which immediately and swiftly saw a missile attack during the broadcast, followed again by another attack in a house where Gaddafi happens to be, there is no doubt that someone is very busy trying to kill Gaddafi - and damn the consequences!

As Shashank Joshi argues in Death of Saif Al-Arab Gaddafi may backfire for Nato, “The death of Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, if confirmed, is likely to have come as a consequence of Nato's increasingly aggressive tactics, undertaken by the alliance to shake up a stalemate in the conflict.” He continues “and most important, air strikes began to target command, control, communications and intelligence networks (known, in military parlance, as C3I). The Bab al-Aziziya compound includes all three such networks, and it was presumed that their disruption would disorient regime soldiers on the front line, cut off field commanders from Tripoli, and sow confusion in the ranks. But was the strike also an assassination attempt?”

“Assassination of a head of state is illegal under international law, and forbidden by various US presidential orders. On the other hand, the targeted killing of those woven into the enemy chain of command is shrouded in legal ambiguity.
Given the personalistic nature of the regime, and the "all means necessary" clause in UN Resolution 1973, it might be argued that killing Col Muammar Gaddafi and certain members of his family - such as his son Khamis, commander of an elite military brigade - would be permissible, even if it posed a risk to those non-combatants around the regime. Legality, though, indicates neither legitimacy nor prudence. This strike, and the death of Saif al-Arab, have produced little military result at the greatest diplomatic and symbolic cost to Nato."

Needless to say that this western effort at assassination and regime change is clearly illegal, in violation of international law, and of the UN resolution 1973. I very particularly liked this comment. It is apt. The attempt to dance her way back to the Castle is a poor understanding of what Ghanaians are expecting from her. I think even before she is given the consideration as a credible candidate, she must come out, for starters, and tell us her role, or lack of it, in the abduction and heinous murder of the three high court judges and a retired army officer, when her husband was the Chairman of the PNDC.
I think every one would understand that an accomplice to such a crime deserves not to be rewarded with the presidency of this country, but a long prison sentence! It is in the Special Investigations Board Report into the murders that it was Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings who personally took the keys to the “operational vehicle” from her dinning hall table and handed them over to the murderers. How does dancing exonerate her?

I have also been instructed to communicate clearly to you that your feature article has woefully failed to control the damage caused to the image of the party by the superstitious and rather silly utterances by its General Secretary! The main issue is the quality of the leadership in that party and not the timing of when and how they should release their nonsense!

When do you think would be the appropriate time for this idiot to talk about the politics of the Easter weather, if not now? It would be too late after the NDC congress!

If the NPP is counting on the weaknesses of the NDC to come to power, they must not pretend they do not have their own weaknesses. The real weakness of the NPP is the lack of leadership materials. The flag-bearer is the one who should ultimately project himself in a class of his own. But even this man is also talking nonsense!

The last time we heard from him he was speaking in Twi to a group of his fellow Akans and manipulating and inciting them into tribal violence against non-Akans because, according to him, he had been informed by some people that they think Akans are cowards. And that if you wound one or two of them, all the rest run away. And that the violence NPP displayed in the recent elections in Antwima was just a tip of the iceberg. And that all Akans have two balls in their testicles, so "all die be die" in 2012!

Personally, I prefer the Easter weather to the "all die be die" nonsense, because it threthens the peace and stability of this country, aimed not even at the victory of the NPP of which he is the flag-bearer but the superiority of Akans, which normally should not be the preoccupation of a party that claims to want the vote of non-Akans!

It is pathetic that instead of calling a spade a spade, and telling this comedian of a politician to shut up and stop talking nonsense, Sarpong choose to quietly advice the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir Johnm 'not to dominate the airwaves"!

The NPP must not run away from the public. They must find a way of talking sense, that's all! People like their general secretary need not to forget to wear their brains before they open their mouths.

It is extremely shameful and disgraceful that at this stage of our democracy we still have figures like this individual in the leadership of the main opposition party in Ghana! How come we have a guy more stupid than the average stupid fool as the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John?

I am sure Ghanaians know what to do without any further provocations. One other fellow capable of a similar nonsense is Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey. Perhaps Sarpong must fly down from Texas and ensure that the guy is gagged. I can bet my bottom dollar that he is very busy and carefully preparing his own nonsense to release soon!

The elephant has not only been chased into the bush! It is beating about the bush! From the flag-bearer to semi-illiterate supporters like Justice Sarpong!

Young man,

Don't you have elders in your house? How dare you talk to all Ghanaians in such a disrespectful manner? Do you understand what you write? What is going on here? The struggle for democracy in Ghana is a process that started a long time ago. Once upon a time, Rawlings became the main obstacle when he said the return of the ballot box "would be the return of the devil himself!" Those of us who have been on his back since then have been on his back to keep him in his place and to remove him as the imposter that he is. This is not an obsession. Those hundreds of Ghanaians whose fathers, mothers, children, brothers and sisters were brutally tortured and killed are not obsessed with Rawlings, they simply want justice!

This article is a silly apology for a mass murderer who recently called for investigations into a murder case in Tamale because, according to him, the police used the victim as a human shield. It is not for someone guilty of the deaths of hundreds of Ghanaians to be the first to complain about the murder of a single Ghanaian. This is hypocrisy.

The quarrel between Rawlings and the President is basically because he wanted to personally screen all ministerial and political appointments, just as it was in "the good old days" of the [P]NDC.

Rawlings is obsessed with annoying Ghanaians and making a lot of noise rather than sense. Ghanaians who feel the need to defend our democracy, often talk about Rawlings, not because they are obsessed by Rawlings, but because of stupid articles such as this one, aiming clearly to spin this man with the blood of many innocent Ghanaians on his hands back into respectability and acceptance. This requires fooling a lot of Ghanaians, the majority of whom a just too clever for such simple and dim wits!

Rawlings must get ready to answer for his murderous past, first and foremost, the level of corruption he and his wife supervised in the sale and purchase of Ghanaian properties such as the Star Hotel and the others which now form part of their "survival kit".

Such a person can spend his time helping to improve our prison conditions because our history is bound to teach the appropriate lessons. And Rawlings is destined to go to jail for his crimes!

He committed such heinous crimes that some of us may probably be obsessed with JUSTICE but not the person Rawlings, even though he is talking a lot of nonsense of late!

They reportedly went in after French tanks advanced on the compound in Ivory Coast's main city, Abidjan, following French and UN helicopter attacks.

Mr Gbagbo is refusing to cede power to Alassane Ouattara, certified as the winner of the presidential election.

UN peacekeepers accuse Gbabgo forces of endangering the civilian population.

"Gbagbo has been arrested by French special forces in his residence and has been handed over to the rebel leaders," presidential spokesman Toussaint Alain told Reuters news agency from Paris.

News of the arrest was later confirmed by the French ambassador for AFP news agency."

The Pan-Africanist International is launching a campaign to compel all the principal actors who have obviously misled the public as to who did the arrest of President Gbagbo and why the story is no longer the same as they themselves said in the beginning that this was the case.

In this first instance, we are launching this particular campaign to compel the BBC to come out and explain why they chose to suppress a very important piece of information on the arrest and detention of a President of a sovereign country by a former colonial exploiter and hand him over to what still remains a "constitutionally reecognised loser of the elections" and a leader of "internationally recognised" rebels?

We agree with Craig Murray on this:

"This is a tragedy for Africa, because it devalues democracy. Ouattara, with a strong personal push from Sarkozy, secured international recognition for his election victory. In truth it was an extremely dubious election, with no freedom for Ouattara supporters in the South or for Gbagbo supporters in the North in a poisonous contest. It would have been better for everyone if Gbagbo had accepted that he lost and left quietly. But the truth is that both sides’ claims of victory are fallacious. This was nothing like a free and fair election. Somehow the UN and the international community finds itself in the position of imposing by force, fighting alongside the perpetrators of massacre, the “democratically elected” victor. This denigrates democracy."

Now, all of a sudden, after voices such as this, and others like the Inter City Press, New York, the Coalition Against Foreign Military Intervention in Africa (CAFIA), which on Tuesday began its league of demonstrations across West Africa and the rest of the world, kicked off in Accra, Ghana, "on Tuesday demonstrated against foreign intervention in African countries and the capture of Former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo by the French Special Forces in 0Cote d'Ivoire." GNA April 12, 2011, all of a very strange unjournalistic sudden or selective technical errors, the original story on BBC website is even difficult to be traced in google cashe. What is the meaning of this? This is the question Pan-Africanists want the BBC to answer. Please share this and spread the word until they have no choice to to answer this loud and clear!

Matthew Russell Lee of the Inner City Press writes in On Cote d’Ivoire, Bamba Says Gbagbo Arrested Not By France But Ouattara Forces:

UNITED NATIONS, April 11, updated -- After wire services in Abidjan reported that the French tanks from the Force Licorne assaulted the residence of defiant leader Laurent Gbagbo, seized him and turned him over to Alassane Ouattara's forces, Ouattara's envoy to the UN called Inner City Press over.

“Tell your colleagues,” he said. “I have an announcement to make.”

As UN TV fine tuned its microphone and Inner City Press announced the impromptu stakeout by Twitter, Bamba stepped to the mic. As a major US news channel begged him to do it “first in English,” Bamba announced the arrest of Gbagbo in French.

Inner City Press asked Bamba to confirm or deny that the French Force Licorne actually took custody of Gbagbo, then handed him over to Ouattara's forces.

No, Bamba said, denying it. The Forces Republicain de Cote Ivoire made the arrest.

This exactly how the news was broken to all of us. It is certainly not the same thing as what Bemba is claiming. Earlier on, there had been reports that President Gbagbo was about to surrender to the rebels. This was just three hours after Aljazeera reported that Gbagbo had refused to surrender:

The true accounts, as corroborated by the news reports from the very people mentioned in the report below, available to the public and widely circulated by the corporate media is as clearly explained below:

"Ouattara’s forces had been unable to take Gbagbo’s residence for the past 10 days, and on Sunday it seemed that he was beginning to expand the area under his control. The concerted action on the part of the French and the UN mission in Ivory Coast, UNOCI, was designed to rapidly bring the fighting to a close.
According to media reports, French helicopters and tanks bombarded the compound, where Gbagbo had taken refuge during the fighting in Abidjan.
Supporters who were in phone contact with Gbagbo before his surrender insisted that he gave himself up to French troops. Toussaint Alain said that Gbagbo had been “arrested by French special-forces in his residence” and “handed over to the rebel leaders”.
Gbagbo loyalist and adviser Zakaria Fellah said that the claim that Ouattara’s forces had carried out the operation was “absolutely untrue”. He said, “This operation, the final assault, was carried out by the French troops.”
Another Gbagbo supporter, Ahoua Don Mello, told reporters, “President Laurent Gbagbo came out of his bunker and surrendered to the French without resistance.”

But the conspiracy to subvert the will of the people of the Ivory Coast has many front-lines. Also at New York, "Inner City Press asked chief UN Peacekeeper Alain Le Roy to explain French foreign minister Alain Juppe's statement this week that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon supports his position that Gbagbo must sign an agreement ceding power to Ouattara. "Inner City Press: President Ouattara has said that he intends to, quote, “starve out”, i.e., blockade the residence of Gbagbo so that no water or food goes in and so then he has to come out. And I just wondered what is, not Mr. Le Roy or Mr. Choi Young-jin, what’s the Secretary-General, what’s his position on that?

Spokesperson Nesirky: Well, as you know, it is in the title that Alain Le Roy is Under-Secretary-General reporting to the Secretary-General. He is in charge of peacekeeping operations. And what is happening with the Mission in Côte d’Ivoire, he will be briefing the Council and after that, I am sure he will be happy to speak to you, including on that topic, if he has an update."

Very pertinent one there!

I think they are running away from the political blow-back and how this will impart negatively on their puppet. Also, they may not want to be responsible for what happens to Gbagbo, even though they will decide his fate!

They have a lot of reasons to hide:

Hi Kofi,

I personally found your take on Akufo-Addo's gaffe rather too mild! Your opening paragraph syas it all:

"I am sure that in his heart of hearts, Akufo-Addo will not wish blood and mayhem on innocent Ghanaians. We all know he really wanted to say his party would not tolerate any violence during the elections and is prepared to defend itself if any such violence is visited on it."

The reason why Akufo-Addo's "All Die Be Die" speech is reprehensible is basically because this is the first time since Ghana became an independent country that we see a Ghanaian Presidential candidate openly identifying himself with an ethnic group and calling for the blood of those he perceives to enemies of his "tribe"!

There is no way this spade is going to be called a shovel! Akufo-Addo's intemperate, ethnocentric, irresponsible calls for violence and inter-ethnic strife ought to be identified for what it is, and be called into question. It is bad enough even as a slip of the tongue, and apology, even at that point, would have been appropriate and expected!

To the utter dismay, shock, and disgust, Mr. William Kofi Addo-Danquah Akufo-Addo repeated those offensive words a few more times before someone slapped him on the hand to put a stop to it!

He has so far stubbornly and arrogantly refused to withdraw those words nor render any apologies to the good and peace-loving people of Ghana! Instead, he tones down his rhetoric, goes to embrace the President publicly, and begins to pray for non-Akans involved in motor traffic accidents! The last time we heard of him, it was:

"The 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed gratitude to God for “protecting the lives” of the Majority Leader and a Deputy Minister who were both involved in separate road accidents over the weekend.

Mr. Cletus Avoka, Majority Leader in Parliament, survived a serious accident on the Navrongo-Zebila Road on Saturday, which resulted in him being hospitalised."

He is definitely feeling the heat from his own stupidity, but he is far too arrogant to apologize for it! Your article was the best attempt I have seen so far that tries to take the heat off his back. I did not like your conclusion though. Ghana's political contest for the Presidency is not a beauty pageant! You rather deviously succeeded in bringing Akufo-Addo back into the race by making excuses for his monumental gaffe.

I am very happy that you pleased nobody in the long run with your "non-partisan" article. I was as much unhappy with it as Okoampa is, albeit for different reasons.

Introduction
Akufo-Addo must be made to substantiate the dangerous statement that some one had told him that:

"We Akans are cowards. They argue that if one is able wound one or two of us, then all the rest of us remaining take to our heels!"

If he cannot do this, then it means he is a genuine fool. And if the fool is too arrogant to withdraw the offending statement, he must be made to do so by the Supreme Court, headed by Ataa Akyea's in-law! I am curious to know how the court would rule over this case! "Frivolous"? "True, Akans are cowards"? "Akufo-Addo's statement is not belligerent and ethnocentric"?

Anyway, we shall have time to talk more about this in subsequent updates. I have been strongly encouraged by the response to the part one of this article that I decided to write the sequel immediately! How could you not be possibly happy if you manage to write a rejoinder to the Akufo-Addo press guru which elicits only ten comments, half of them mine, and by the time of going to the press, we have seventy six comments under the rejoinder?

The reason why I am writing this is because I was very pleasantly surprised to see a lot of NPP supporters having the nerve to pass comments against my article. What normally happens is that when the punches are too strong, they pretend they have not seen it! Okoampa even went as far as writing that he had no time to read a cut and paste article and credit it with a rejoinder! The only trouble was that he had to read the article carefully and know the sections I lifted from the Danquah Institute website, where I copied my information on Danquah, before determining that there was some "cut and paste"!

They are so ridiculous. I was amused to read Akadu Mansema having nothing sensible to write other than commenting on spelling mistakes! Mistakes that were not even in the article but I comment I made in the Ghanaweb forum eleven months ago! They did not even bother to hide the date! "Author: Nana Akyea Mensah, the Odikro, Date: 2009-05-02 12:42:34" My article was published as a Feature Article on Ghanaweb on Monday, 21 March 2011! Akufo-Addo's take:
"They have made up their minds that they are going to intimidate us in 2012." Akufo-Addo was caught on the microphone, speaking in Twi, an Akan language, 'I sometimes explain this as the claim that we Akans are cowards. They argue that if one is able wound one or two of us, then all the rest of us remaining take to our heels! Is that so? Well, We shall see! Atiwa for example, was a little illustration of this. During the by-elections at Atiwa we did "something small" that showed a little bit of this. And so we have to understand that this party was formed by brave men. Our elders who formed this party which is now the biggest political party in Ghana, were not people who were hiding under beds! The courage that is needed now to face the 2012 elections is 'All die be die! All die be die!' Nobody is a man more than his fellow! Nobody more manly than the other. No matter how tall you are, no matter how small you are in size, by God's plan, all of us are endowed with exactly the same thing. You cannot tell us that you have three inside yours. All of us have how many? Two! Ha! ha! ha! So we are going to pick up courage. Ghanaians need us to come back to power. Whatever courage we need to stand firmly and to ensure that we come back to power in 2012, we are going to have to do it!" Candidate Atta-Mills' take:
“I want to repeat with all the force at my command, the warning note that I
sounded last year (2007) that should there be another attempt by the ruling or
any other party at the December elections to steal the verdict of the people the
National Democratic Congress and all fair minded Ghanaians will categorically
reject out of hand the fraudulent results so proclaimed and will adopt all
legitimate means, to seek redress to any such political misconduct. The NDC
would therefore like to assure every Ghanaian that it will not allow the NPP in
the coming elections to repeat such a disgraceful conduct as it did in 2004...It
(NDC) therefore urges all Ghanaians and the international community to draw
useful lessons from the on-going Kenyan conflict situation and the unacceptable
conduct of elections held recently in other African countries with a view to
ensuring that they are not replicated in our dear country at the next general
elections.

We wish to take this opportunity to warn also against the kind of pre-election
violence that has taken place in Pakistan with the unfortunate assassination of
Benazir Bhutto and to urge the ruling NPP government to ensure the safety and
security of Presidential and Parliamentary candidates as well as all citizens in
the coming elections,”

Akufo Addo’s Vision for Ghana is All Die Be Die!

Under a very brilliantFeature Article of Wednesday, 16 March 2011, bearing the same title and written by Mr. Charles Nkansah, Oyokoba had argued:

"This author here is one of those fools who pretend they do not understand anything. They uplift things from the context they are given and run away with it like a dog preceding its owner on the way out.

The NDC and Mills can twist all they can, what part of "Do not do any harm to the electoral process or else"...... do they not understand?

Has Mills forgotten he threatened to induce Kenya in Ghana if the 2008 elections did not go smoothly - free and fair - back in 2008? How is that different from Nana Addo's call?

You have been warned way in advance - Azaa President Mills; do the right thing and there will be no drop of blood on Ghana's soil, anything short of that, we shall show you what a courageous people that we are.

Restrain your thugs; the fan-fools that surround you and all shall be well. Do Not Trip on Us. It is as simple as that.

You can hump, you can pant, you can jump, you can huff, you can bark, and we don't give a damn to your rants. Do not disturb the bee nest and you won't get any stings. But All Die Will Be Die if you and your consorts misbehave and try to rig the elections. Do you copy? Good!!!!!!!" Dr. G.K. Berko's Words To The Wise:

"Oyokoba, it is clear that the Author is a Partisan anti-Akufo Addo and ant-NPP. So, we should not be surprised at some of the negative comments he made about Nana Akufo Addo.

But we should be realistic and face facts. Honesty is the best Policy, some say. As often as I have seen many of Nana's supporters come to his defense on the much besieged "All die be die" comment, hardly have I seen any of those defenders of Nana concede that the Akan versus non-Akan part of his comment was wrong or mispoken.

I very much appreciate your steadfastness in supporting Nana. But I expected you, of all people, to have come out with a more convincing defense than one that so blatantly copies the act of the others by not denouncing the Akan versus non-Akan part of that comment.

To many Ghanaians, it is not as much the "All die be die" brazen challenge as the Tribal instigation part of the comment that makes them view Nana as grossly Ethnically divisive. So, why wouldn't you, with all your admirable eloquence, come to the rescue with that little concession of erroneous terminology?

Most Ghanaians see that omission in your efforts to justify Nana's comment as a deliberate design to force the early push of that most worrisome Tribal part into oblivion. And they do not want to just brush that aside or under the carpet because that is what bothers them most about Nana. It is one of those things we would wish sheer silence could sneak into the archives of memory but fail to budge. So, why not boldly admit the error, even without a passionate mia culpa, and move on?

Additionally, two wrongs do not make a right. So, even if President Mills had once made a similar misguided comment, that does not justify Akufo Addo towing the same line. Most people would have embraced Nana more, had he proven to occupy a realm beyond that notch. He would have set himself apart from the chaff, so to speak. He would have displayed a more mature Statesmanship and exemplified a leadership that most Ghanaians crave for, now--one that unites us all as Ghanaians and seen to be ready to lead the Nation in a truly democratic manner, irrespective of our Ethnic diversity.

I have always wondered why Nana did not restrict his comments to the criminal behaviour of the NDC hooligans, even if he thought baring the teeth of a wounded Lion could scare the Hyenas off its back. You've got my drift. Nana could have used the Judicial System to ward off any future threats by these rogues. He is more suited to compelling the Judiciary do the right thing, in this case, getting the culprits to face the full might of the Law, than anyone else around, having been an experienced Legal guru and once an Attorney General.

To be candid with you, I have closely analysed Mills' Kenya tirade of his pre-Presidency campaign and Nana's Akan versus non-Akan comment and found out that as much as both comments were inappropriate, legally, Mill's statement seem to have more legal room to dodge what you and I instinctively believe he meant, than that of Nana's Tribal instigation.

You may be closer to Nana's Office than many of us, and might have been privy to his inner sanctum's intentions for delivering that comment. So, you could have known first-hand that Nana's real intention with that Tribal comment was not as it came out to look. But the Public would not know that. The comment, to many, is the 'other-side-of-the-coin' expectation of many Ghanaians, given the already rising Tribal suspicions among us. It just happens to be the much abhorred side of that coin.

You see, most people go by what they hear. In the Public domain, folks have little time to, instantaneously, dig into the background for hidden motives to properly place comments in their 'proper' shelves. People immediately take what they hear to append to what has been currently happening around them. That could give them a different set of motives they tend to ascribe to the Politician making that comment. When that is done, it becomes a yeoman's burden to change their perception on that comment. Almost no amount of spin could win back the majority on that view.

It is with this practical observation that I would have liked to see you and others more humbly concede the erroneous presentation of that Tribal comment. But, again and again, that crucial expectation goes unfulfilled. And the perceived damage keeps reaching farther and farther and deeper and deeper as Nana's Political foes exploit the gap.

I hope you would take a deep breath and pause to ponder over this further. We could remain stubbornly unmoved in our respective positions on this issue. But the electorate may be unforgiving. I shot back immediately:

"Thank you so much sir! "Nana's Political foes exploit the gap"? We have also warned him to mind the very same gap! We have had the occasion of raising the specific issue of a leader of a political party in Ghana who opens his mouth to say "We Akans are not cowards...all did be die!", as a part of a national presidential race!!!

It is strange that Oyokoba is being so deliberately mischievous. Even demonstrably less intelligent supporters of the NPP and Akufo-Addo have been wise enough to distance themselves from this patently ethnocentric bunkum. Justice Sarpong is one of such regularly silly supporters of the NPP, but even he had something refreshingly different to say, whilst making apologies for Akufo-Addo. This is a very serious thing for a leading politician to say and be allowed to get away with! There is some accountability and law and order in this country, No? There are thousands of NPP members, particularly the non-Akans, but not necessarily limited to the non-Akans only. For example a rabid and semi-illiterate and formerly ethnocentric NPP member, like most members of the NPP until he passed through my hands on Ghanaweb, had this to say, whilst defending Akufo-Addo:

"Let me make it crystal clear here that, I do not agree with the part of Nana's speech talking about the bravery of Akans and making it seem like NPP is an Akan party at war with the Ewe dominated NDC Party. Ghanaians are not going to war war with each other, we have come a long way in our democratic rebirth we will not resort to the Kenya or Ivory Coast examples but we will not allow any Party, either NPP or NDC to hijack any election in Ghana, that NDC should not try to rig the 2012 election. Rawlings peacefully handed over to Kuffour and he in turn did the same thing to Mills. We expect Mills or Nana Konadu Agyeman to concede defeat gracefully in 2012 when the tide turns against NDC. We do not need to use guns, arrows and bows to affirm the will of the people. Ghanaians are too enlightened and matured to resort to this kind of primitive [endevour]." Conclusion
It is up to you, fellow countrymen and women, to make up your own minds. And please, no matter what you do, follow politicians with your own conscience. You do yourself and your neighbours a moral injury each time you follow blindly! God is watching you! If war breaks out and people begin to die, their blood will not be only on Akufo-Addo's hands, it will also be on your hands, if you could not stand up and counted!
