Why I Like An Early NPP Congress: Nye obi na okum ananse!

Comment on: Angry NPP supporters reject early presidential primary, General News of Thursday, 3 October 2013,Source: Joy Online:

Why I Like An Early NPP Congress:
Nye obi na okum ananse!

My first Reason is that it will show the true colours of the NPP as "champions of democracy in Ghana".

The NPP has been boasting all along, with a strategic political narrative, that has nothing to do with what they practice. They have always preached democracy and always practised dictatorship.

After losing to President Nkrumah, they decided to bomb their way to power, culminating in the 1966 coup d'etat.

Busia was seen fighting the judiciary in the famous Sallah case. President Kuffour's Supreme Court appointments followed closely after the government had lost a case.

They have either interfered even with the constitution, or acted in such manner in the general manner they govern Ghana whilst in office, than can meet the ordinary eye.

It is significant that this is clearly showing even within the party itself. From now on, Ghanaians would know what it is they are looking at, when they see the NPP. And I am certain that many shall see anything but democracy! It's nice to see such suicidal stupidity at the highest levels of that party' echelon.

My second Reason is that it will give some of us enough time to ask some questions and see if we can extract a response before the race begins.

We hope to harvest enough responses or signals of indirect responses before the race actually begins. These have direct implications on recurrent themes about public perception of arrogance, for example.

Even though the grounds on which these questions are being raised are not far-fetched, the last time we checked, the closest we have got in response to all the calls for explanations and some transparency concerning his exit from Oxford University. The only wise thing they managed to say was that "Nana was treating the question with the contempt that it deserves".

This is one of my favourite questions, and I would be glad to commence my interrogations from where we left off, and raise the issues anew, in the light of ridiculous attempt to throw dust into the eyes of the public. With some luck, I can even predict that by the time elections begin and they go in search for campaign funding, even their donors will know that they are betting on a wrong horse.

The third reason is that it shows very clearly that someone has to be flag-bearer of the NPP "at all cost"! And that is already going to do half the job for us. There could be no better way to get the NPP divided than through their own machinations. It is obvious that this is bound to be the most difficult swindling of power in the history of competitive politics within the NPP itself, as a party.

What next, NPP? First it was "property owning democracy" clearly spelling out, in black and white, their ideological bankruptcy. Now it is "Rule by decree"! This is a self-imposed political dynamite. I can only wish you well as you ponder over even greater mischiefs that will ensure your own defeat.

The fourth Reason is that we are beginning to understand what Akufo-Addo means by retiring from public engagements, and "seeking the face of God" before announcing his intentions to contest the 2016 elections. He is not seeking the face of God. He is busy underground, sabotaging democracy within his own party. The most ridiculous antic in recent times has been the attempt to bestow an award from the NUGS! Simply amazing!

And as though it were a joke, National Executive Committee of the NPP actually met on Thursday, October, 3, 2013, and "Top on their agenda was whether the party should hold an early congress to elect a presidential candidate for the 2016 elections or not."

Here is how the story goes:

"the Angry NPP supporters besieged the party headquarters where National Executive Committee were meeting over fresh proposals to prepare the party for the 2016 general elections.

Top on their agenda was whether the party should hold an early congress to elect a presidential candidate for the 2016 elections or not.

The steering committee of the party early this week included this proposal to be considered by the party’s national executive council before the national executives are also elected.

But some supporters of the party are against moves by the party leaders to hold early congress.

A section of the group that besieged the party headquarters said they were convinced Nana Akufo-Addo, NPP’s 2012 presidential candidate will win the 2016 so there was no need for an early election. The supporters clad in red apparel are rather calling for accountability.

It took a handful of heavily armed police personnel to bring them to order.

One of them told Joy News’ Beatrice Adu, “We want our party to go through polling station election, constituency election, go through regional election, subsequently national and then we will have our national and then presidential primary.”

He also wants all candidates to be given fair and equal treatment especially persons contesting for parliamentary election to minimize the number of aggrieved candidates who would want to go independent."

How could anyone have put it better? This is what is currently happening within the NPP. Nye obi na okum ananse! No one else is responsible for the death of Ananse but Ananse himself! They seem quite happy digging their own graves, that thing may work very well!

Let's keep our fingers crossed, whilst we all wish the NPP an early congress!

Hello Nasty Fellow,

Your right to be filthy and nasty must end where Mr. Kwesi Pratt, Jnr's well-being as a citizen of Ghana begins.

I want you to know that comments like yours inciting hatred and violence have nothing to do with the freedom of speech. It is clearly a criminal offence to write that, "Somebody should put a bullet in his mouth to silence him."

I have been interested in finding out what some of us can do to bring such irresponsible comments on the Ghanaweb to a decent minimum.

I therefore ask for a retraction. You have the entire day to do so. If by the end of the day, no such retraction has occurred, you will be able to know whether you can be smoked out and prosecuted or not!

A word to the wise is enough!

It is now obvious that the Akufo-Addo petition was not designed to attack the Mahama Administration, but to stifle internal opposition to the Akufo-Addo's last attempt to contest.

This same Gabby wrote a rather strange article which actually said two thing. We know we are going to lose the 2012 elections. We are going to contest the results when we lose.

Whether or not we win, our aim is to keep Akufo-Addo in the public eye, until those who think 2012 was Akufo-Addo's political expiring date begin to think again! It is an opportunity for Akufo-Addo to do things that can endear himself and to get his executives in the NPP back to power, with himself as the flag-bearer.

These steps became necessary because of "Agenda '16". The "Agenda 2016" is the Alan Cash camp. They are not likely to take all these antics of side-stepping them with early elections before the elections of the Akufo-Addo infested National Executive Committee lying down.

This is the problem this article seeks to address. It only ends up making light of it, rather than addressing it. NPP may have to learn to fight in a way that allows them to come together afterwards. But when some feel an injustice has been done to them, and no one is addressing them at the leadership level, this article would rather infuriate such a person.

And this is the effect it is likely to have inside the party, from the "other camp".

Just watch and see! The NPP blues are not yet over!

It is a pity the GM lobby have resorted to hiring the services of any Tom, Dick and Adomah, to churn out such nonsense!

What has the Biodiversity Act got to do with the approval of GM field trials by the National Biosafety Committee?

Adomah writes:

"Ghana’s National Biosafety Committee (NBC) gave the approval to conduct such tests following the promulgation of the country’s Biosafety Act, 2011 (Act 831)."

The Biosafety Act calls for the establishment of a National Biosafety Authority which is yet to be inaugurated!

But even more nonsensical is the unsubstantiated and wild claim that "advocates of the GM technology believe that the adoption of GM cultivation would have significant benefits for farmers, consumers as well as the environment"!

What are the benefits of cancerous tumours, organ damage, and premature death, that consumers risk as a result of dependence on GM crops as the main source of food in the long run?

what are the benefits of pollution, increase in the use of stronger doses of pesticides, herbicides, and the emergence of super-weeds and super-bugs?

The only sure benefits that come out of the use of GMOs are the profits of these 419 companies that sell them! and perhaps the kick-backs given to cheap journalists like this writer, politicians, and the scientists who act as their local agents!

the National Biosafety Committee appears to be saddled with compromised individuals with serious conflicts of interests, otherwise, who in his right senses would champion such a silly cause?

Ghanaians must resist this in the same way we resisted Apartheid, Colonialism, and Slavery! The monopolization of our food by foreign multinational corporations just for them to make profits and control our lives is not a benefit!

You see, these people are hypocrites. There is no need to force them to pretend that they respect people when in their hearts they have nothing but contempt for them! Allow them to keep showing us their true colours. That is the easiest way to make sure the elephant stays in the bush!

Akufo-Addo does not only need to “to come and explain to us (Ghanaians) why they terminated the service of solicitors we contracted in the U.K”, he needs to give reasons why he should not be given a long jail sentence for causing financial loss to the state!

He should be jailed for criminal negligence! The whole thing looks as though the NPP wanted the Société Générale to win the case against Ghana!

It is about time Ghanaians terminate the wicked practice of politicians who hover over Ghana like vultures looking for carcass and create the enabling environment to siphon off such large sums into the pockets of their foreign benefactors whilst they themselves are even satisfied with peanuts!

What marvellous stupidity is this? And he wants to be made President "at all cost"? No wonder he resorted to the slogan of armed robbers: "all die be die!"!

Good day, my dear idiot,

Thank you very much for proving me right! I am sure no sensible NPP sympathiser is going to show his face. They are all bowing their heads in shame! Only genuine fools who have nothing to lose would come and beat about the bush!

The stealing of Ghana's money has nothing to do with the work The Odikro does! The Odikro is not even a member of the NDC, and has nothing to do with that party anywhere! He does not drink beer nor any other alcoholic beverage.

By the way, the stealing of millions of dollars by the NPP has nothing to do with what The Odikro does in Belgium. It is strange that you display this level of stupidity. The NPP must find better arguments to explain to Ghanaians why we must entrust the governance of this country in their hands, rather than seeing The Odikro in Afro shops!

I couldn't agree with you more! The NPP is fast carving an image for itself as a criminal organization. It is like a kind of Mafia in which the Capo di capo is always right. And the gang members who disagree with the leadership do so at their own risk!

It is interesting that a person like Sir John is the General Secretary of the NPP. In the past, the NPP used to boast that they had "the men". It is becoming increasingly clear that the rather have "the fools"!

I pray that the NPP keeps Sir John as their General Secretary for the second term. It will be a well-deserved punishment for a party that never learns anything! that way, it will make the task of returning the silly elephant back into the bush a "cold chop"!

Your ignorance is amazing! It is very doubtful that you are so stupid. Since you are accusing him to be a liar, it is more plausible that you know what you are saying is false. The UN special rapporteur on human rights, Carla Del Ponte specifically accused the rebels of using the nerve gas you are referring to.

By the way, it is also against international law to go and attack another country simply because you have "high confidence" that the government there is killing its own people! The US is currently supporting Bahrain that has killed more of its own people than this gas attack by the Syrian rebels!

By the way, why break international laws by not going through the UN Security Council, with the lame excuse that the use of chemical weapons is against international law? Since when was the US so sensitive to that? Who used the phosphorous gases in Fallujah?

The contradictions are so many that the lie has to be a very big one! Here is a good one: "Americans are there bcos Asaad has used Chemical weapon twice and that's violation of UN Law".

"Why would the U.S. risk killing innocent Syrian civilians to punish the Syrian regime for killing Syrian civilians?" Amy Goodman asks in this week's column. "What if a military strike was not an option?"

Akufo-Addo has so many unanswered questions hanging on his head. His much talked about history of drug abuse is one he was never able to deal with. Attempts by others to help him out even made matters worse. the most interesting of them was when ex-President Kufour came out with the bombshell: "Do not judge Akufo-Addo by his past"!

Dr. Arthur Kennedy also tried in vain to exonerate him with the claim that, as a qualified medical officer, he had examined Nana Akufo-Addo with his bare eyes and "did not find a drop of cocaine in his blood"!

Even though Akufo-Addo knows how to write petitions, he has failed to petition Oxford University to come out with the official reasons why he was dismissed from Oxford in 1962, thereby fuelling speculations that he was dismissed for smoking wee on university campus.

The question many people are asking is when he stopped smoking marijuana, since he would be seen twenty years later in a "wake n bake" scandal revealed by the Wikileaks that he smoked marijuana, fist thing in the morning!

If these rumours are true, can we trust such a President to soberly preside over the delicate and complex affairs of the state? Can Ghanaians really entrust their destiny in his hands? How do you feel being a passenger of a car woith a drunken driver?

Akufo-Addo must give us a break! He just made a mistake in believing that he has been ordained to rule over us! At the last time I checked, Ghana was still a democracy. and only Ghanaians ordain who must rule over them! The way he handled his "all die be die" campaign makes it clear he is not fit to get anywhere near the Presidency!

He must take a permanent retirement and allow the NPP to learn the correct lessons for their defeat! He needs to stop the disgusting narrative that anyone cheated him. He was unable to win because of the perceived arrogance, mediocrity, ethnocentric comments and behaviour of most of his inner-circle members, and his general comportment as a warlord rather than a flag-bearer of a political party!

I am no fan of Alan Cash, but any other person would be better than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo! He must give us a break! That is an order!

OFFICE OF THE ODIKRO

He who pays the piper calls the tune. When the cameraman of Rawlings was severely beaten in a hotel lobby in Kumasi, Akufo-Addo was there in the lobby; he merely looked on as if it was something very normal.

His body guards would beat the body guards of Prof. Mills, not once, but twice. The first was during the 2008 Fetu Afahye at Cape Coast. The second was at the Odwira Festival, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. There is no doubt that these beatings were being done to please their boss and paymaster.

The only occasion Akufo-Addo was forced to come out to condemn his body guards' wanton beatings of political opponents was when they attacked and beat up some individuals suspected to be supporters of Alan Cash at the NPP Headquarters in Accra.

Sometime last year, Mr. Asamoah Boateng would run for dear life, after he tried to approach the Akufo-Addo VICTORY 2012 Office in Accra. He was chased away by the hangers-on. His crime? The only explanation given was in the shouts they made: "Agenda 2016"!

"Agenda 2016" is a code name for the Alan Kyeremanteng camp. The Akufo-Addo camp believed the "agenda 2016" did not wish them well. And that they wanted Akufo-Addo to lose the 2012 elections so that Alan Cash could take over the Presidential candidacy of the NPP for the 2016 elections.

It was even believed that the "Agenda 2016" was working tirelessly to scupper Akufo-Addo's chances in 2012, to make the way for Alan Cash in 2016. Hence the hostility. Yet, what we saw was exactly the opposite. Ashanti Region, Alan Cash's strongest base had the highest votes for Akufo-Addo, as Mr. Kyeremanteng, J. A. Kufuor and all campaigned tirelessly for Akufo-Addo.

Aren't Ghanaians simply tired of this type of politics? Akufo-Addo must not confuse running for office with the work of a warlord! He is getting nowhere with this "all die be die" attitude! you cannot surround yourself with thugs without being a thug yourself!

Don't be silly! Let Kwesi speak his mind! This is how he helped to build the democracy we are all enjoying! Don't you have elders in your home? What did Mr. Pratt say that irks you so much? The President never went to court for even one minute. If after the hard work by others, he did not have the decency even to thank them, should he not point that out?

Look at Akufo-Addo. He was in court regularly. He was constantly in touch with his legal team. Yet he thanked them for their hard work, even though they lost the case! How would you objectively compare the two?

Everyone knows Mr. Pratt supports President Mahama, and has been against Nana Akufo-Addo throughout the campaign, but the man is objective and a principled person who calls a spade a spade!

The "problem" with Mr. Pratt is that you cannot buy him. He is no sycophant! He speaks his mind very clearly, and with much wisdom. He does not care about your insults! Even with Rawlings' gun pointed at his head, he spearheaded the struggle against his dictatorship which ushered Ghana into the democracy we are enjoying!

The man virtually sacrificed himself to help free Ghana from military dictatorship into the current democratic dispensation. The minimum we can do is to be thankful and show him some respect!

Yes! That is the spirit! Ghana wins! I have always maintained that the NPP petition was void ab initio. It was a waste of time and resources. It is a pity that such a frivolous and extremely vexatious case almost plunged the nation into confusion.

The NPP needs to lick their wounds and begin to find out why they lost. It has to be clear to them that they lost not because they were cheated. Perhaps, they need to be less war-like. Bellicose statements like "all die be die" must have put voters off.

The insults of other ethnic groups need to stop. How do you call all Ewes "trokosi" and expect them to vote for you? How do you call people from the North as "cow rearers" and expect a massive vote? The NPP campaigned unwittingly against itself.

The "Free SHS" 419 also failed to trick Ghanaians. First of all, it was announced before much thought was even given to how much it was going to cost. Nana akufu-Addo was pathetic in his BBC HARDtalk interview, when he was asked a simple question:

"PRESENTER: So have you costed it? How much will it cost?'

NANA AKUFO-ADDO: The costing... the costing... is being... is being done. I mean very very soon we will be in the position.

PRESENTER: No, you must have costed it! You can't make a promise like that without costing it?

NANA AKUFO-ADDO: No, no, no, very, very soon we are going to be...

PRESENTER: How much?
NANA AKUFO-ADDO: Very, very soon, we are going to be... put it together. I prefer...

PRESENTER: You don't know how much?
NANA AKUFO-ADDO: I do know how much, understand, but...

PRESENTER: Oh, then tell me that?
NANA AKUFO-ADDO: I will prefer to tell the people of Ghana directly before I tell you."

Time for the analysis to flow! More is coming!

"Complete indifference! It does not matter which way the verdict goes! Ghana's political class has betrayed the people of Ghana over the most fundamental issue to the well-being of the good people of this country. The NPP government introduced the Bill in 2004. The NDC government passed it into law in 2011!

They have both betrayed our trust, our health, and our environment. they pretend to be fighting each other, but they agree on imposing dangerous genetically modified organisms into our food chain! I am prepared to even give the credit to Danquah for suggesting it, but what is the point? They guy was a CIA asset, and no patriot! What is more important - giving your child a name or protecting him or her from harm?
